6 weeks is the time frame to leave the body so I would assume that is

the number for total saturation

They have guidelines that are a function of TSH. I started at 75 ug and

reached my full dose of 112 ug in about four months. However, that is

probably a little fast, because I went back to him early each time. For

example, if he had said three months to me, I would have been back on

his doorstep early in the third month, maybe earlier if I still had

hypo- symptoms.

Several on this list have said they took up to a year before settling on

a relatively fixed dosage. Because of the dangers of hyperthyroidism,

many docs are conservative in ramping it up. It also depends on other

health factors.

Your ideal dose does change with age but slowly.

Not a good assumption. Different processes and different operating

conditions. The TSH number adjusts much quicker than this, in just a

couple of weeks. The problem is that this does not reflect " saturation "

in the cells, just the blood.

this is very obvious since very few doctors test absorbtion rates---

very few here are lucky to get the free t3, t4 tests if at all---but

the typical time frame a doctor will tell you is 6 weeks even though

I have read it can change closer to a months time frame and there are

always variables--but the general number is 6 weeks.

a better worded statement would be the time frame for adaptation --

the body's adjustment period with or without the hormones.

hi there! my doc was seeing me about every 6-8 weeks and increasing dosages each

visit (or changing my thyroid meds).

i told my doctor i would not be satisfied until i was back to normal. i still

have memory problems and brain fog, but other than that, I feel great! i may

need more Armour. others say i may need to be treated for adrenal problems.

hugs, sheila

I am on 50mg of Thyroxine at the moment and my doc wants to see me in

3 months time when he will asses if it needs to be put up. I am

feeling better but not 100% so what can I expect?

Many thanks

It should be 6 weeks before upping the dosage, not 3 months.

Can you get a new doctor?

New doctor new doctor new doctor... doesn't have to be a specialist, an

internist who cares is often better.
