Dear ,

Welcome to the group! Sorry that you find yourself needing Flatback surgery, but we have a few members that have had surgery with Dr. Boachie, and just love him. If you scroll down to the bottom of this message, and click on " Message" at the bottom of the page, a page will pop up, and at the top is a search box, just type in Boachie, and you can read past messages from group members about that doctor. Dr. Boachie has an excellent reputation among the Flatback community. I just this weekend watched a T.V. show called " Surgery saved my life" featuring dr. Boachie, and two young patients of his, I think it was on Discovery channel.

I have had two Flatback revision surgeries, and I'm doing well. I know it's hard facing surgery but for me it was sure worth it. I wish you well, please write more about what brought you to the surgery and us. We look forward to hearing more of your story. In the files section of the site is a members stories section, good place to start. The site has tons of excellent info. The members here are warm caring people who are more than willing to help and be a support while you are going through this. Once again welcome!

Hi ,

Welcome to the group. Wow...March will come up fast...I am guessing it

probably is beginning to seem too fast!

I did not end up having my revision with DrBoachie, although he was my

second opinion and I very much liked him. I think you are in good

capable hands. We have a number of members who had surgery with him and

I am sure you will hear from them. You also might want to search all

the old messages. When you are in " messages " on the main site notice up

at the top there is a grey box that says " search " . If you click the

word " advanced " next to it you will be able to be more specific about

what you are looking for in our old posts. I would search for messages

with " Dr. Boachie " in the message body. A quick search I did reveals

there are 626 posts that mention him.

You also might want to look through the " files " are of the main menu.

You will see member stories there.

If there is anything else we can share with your please do not

hesitiate to ask. It's very big surgery. Do you know if you are having

a one day aurgery or are you going to have the multi-day deal? Will you

be fused to the sacrum when he is done?

Take Care, Cam

HI ,

I had flatback surgery with Dr. Boachie. He is an excellent surgeon and a wonderful human being. His office staff is great, too and the hospital is one of the very best. I think you are in very good hands. If I had to do it all over again, I'd still go to Dr. Boachie. Cam and gave you excellent advice about how to find more information about him on the site. In addition, you may want to search the site for Hospital for Special Surgery (HSS) or ask me any hospital specific questions.

Dear , Ditto what Bonnie said. He did my Spinal Revision on

June 8th, 2005 & my results were & are excellent. His staff is very

good also. I consider him to be a Miracle Wrker as he has given me

back my life. I would not hesitate to have him do any surgery I would

need but I hope & pray I am done. Eight back surgeries were more than

enough for me.

Dear , Thank you for your warm welcome to the group. I hope to become an active contributor to the group and encourage anyone that may need it the same as I've had during my readings of posts. I eagerly await my surgical date March 20, 2007 though with some trepidation. Having had several spine surgeries I know what I'm faced with and from reading members' messages flatback surgery and recovery has its challenges and risks. At this point in my life my days are filled with sedentary activity as flatback has made walking an exhausiting activity with its due pains. I still do the family food shopping weekly as I hunch over the shopping cart and grasp for needed support. In my mid fifties, I am no competition for the octegenarians I see at the store. I love to cook and Food TV inspires me in the kitchen; but even that bit of activity can be challenging; it is what I do for

the family along with some house chores. In the future I hope to share my progress or pitfalls with the group and look forward to support and encouragement of you troopers. All the best in 2007... T Kirkaldie <.Kirkaldie@...> wrote: Dear , Welcome to the group! Sorry that

I just went to put your surgery date on our calendar and guess what?

You have a surgical twin! Our beloved Suzanne,(also SB or bahadreama)

is having a staged surgery with DrBridwell and her second stage is the

same as your date...meaning you two will cross over the " great divide "

(those that have and those that haven't) together. At least you can

hold cyber hands and jump more or less together!

Welcome, !!! I am scheduled for March 13 & March 20 with Dr

Bridwell in St Louis.

I was surprised to find an approval notice from my insurance company in

the mail today! The nurse case manager had told me that my approval to

see Dr Bridwell expired on December 31 and that I would have to do more

paperwork (and I haven't done it yet)

The letter says the diagnosis is Spondylolisthesis Congenital and the

procedure that has been approved is removal of posterior segmental

instrumentation.

I hope I get another letter that approves the second procedure!

That's unusual asking that far ahead to OK the surgery, isn't it? Or

maybe UCSF is the one that's unusual. They don't even try to get pre-

authorization until about a month before the surgery. I faxed my

insurance card to them last week, gave them all the info., and said

I'd be checking back in a few weeks to make sure they got it and then

hopefully they'll be starting to ask my new ins. for permission!

Since I've never done this before, I don't know what " Standard

Operating Procedure " is!?

I think they are getting the insurance approval so early because I am going out of network. I had to get approval to go out of network to see Dr Bridwell in the first place. The insurance company gave me a nurse case manager and I sent her the notes from the local orthopedic guy who described what was wrong with me and his surgical plan. He also noted that it would be a good idea to get a second opinion from Dr Bridwell. I faxed the doctors notes to my case manager and she had the insurance doctor review them. They called me the next day to tell me it had been approved. I still got some bills from the PT and the lab and the x-ray, but once I called my nurse case manager, the insurance company went ahead and paid the out-of-network charges. I had asked Bernie for a letter of medical necessity since my insurance company had approved me in July. They figured I should have been finished with Dr

Bridwell by December. I still need to call my case manager and make sure if I have to do anything else. I want to make sure that they approve whatever Dr Bridwell orders for me and all the other staff, too.
