Guest guest
Hi , I am in the prcoess of scheduling blood donation and after I saw your post I called my insurance (BC/BS HMO) and nope they do not cover blood donation for your self. The hospital will let someone donate for you for free but they can only donate once in a 8 week period for free with out a DR approval. If I donate for myself I was told it is $280 per pint. I thought that was odd that it is the same amount of time and energy to track my blood as it is my husbands, but I get charged. Also finding time to donate with the ridiculous schedule is just getting annoying. I have to come on a weekday the first time but he would have to come on a weekday the second time. He could come on a saturday the first time but I could only come on a saturday the second time. I am about to just give up on the whole donating to myself thing because it is getting rather hard to keep track of all this red tape. My husband was donating because I needed 4 pints and it was getting hectic with me trying to donate them all myself with the amount needed and not being able to donate 10-14 days prior to having the surgery. It lasts for 45 days and you can only give one pint a week. Next thing I will have to wear pink on thursday and stand on one foot the first of every month.
