Hi Kat, For additional fat burning, you can do an extra 20 minutes of moderate cardio on your regularly scheduled cardio days and 40 minutes on your weight training days, but make sure you do it AFTER you do your regularly scheduled program. Guest guest
Tina, Define "moderate cardio" for us please. Do you work out at half intensity or what? Thanks, .
Guest guest
Moderate cardio for me is about a level 6 on the BFL 1-10 scale. Guest guest
Cardio has always been my favorite thing to do. I used to do it every day, for at least 60 min. That was too much and it wasn't doing my body much good. I think there is such a thing as too much cardio, or at least a point of diminishing return for your efforts. I don't think you need cardio every day. It's better to save your cardio energy and put it into your weight work, or go all out on intervals or something on a cardio day. If you really like it though, you could keep it to something minimal, like 20 minutes. > Hi all, > > I'm on my second week of BFL. You may get better/faster results doing the BFL method of cardio. That being said, I'm sure aerobics can be helpful also. I have just found over the years that the BFL program works the best and quickest for me. Colleen
Guest guest
Silly me, I did mean cardio. I workout on an eliptical machine 20 minutes a day - everyday. On the days that I do weights I find the 20 minutes of cardio warms my muscles up for lifting. I am not trying to be an overachiever I just figured since it takes me about 15 minutes of stretching to get my muscle moving I could just do my cardio for 20. Just wondered if anyone else did this and found it helpful, not helpful, detramental.......?? > Cardio has always been my favorite thing to do. I used to do it every > day, for at least 60 min. Guest guest
Hi Jalaine! I think as long as you're eating correctly and eating enough it's fine. I like to do the same thing except in different order. I start by doing about 10 minutes on the elliptical or stepmill to warm up, then I do my LBWO or UBWO then I do cardio. Let me tell you why. A couple of months ago I asked the group when you should do cardio if you do them on the same day as weights. (aka Skwigg) one of the many BFL experts gave me the answer and I've pasted what she said into this message because there are some good reasons why you should wait until after you do weights to do cardio: " You really want to do cardio AFTER weights if you're doing them together. Weight training requires a lot of glycogen. That's stored carbohydrate in your muscles and liver. When you lift weights first, you burn up the glycogen supply as your initial fuel source. Then once you start your cardio your body will immediately dip into your fat stores for energy. It's a cool trick! If you do it the other way around (cardio first), you spend the first 20 minutes burning glycogen, not fat. Then you move on to weights where you actually need the glycogen. It's not there, your energy level is blah, your weight workout is weak, and your fat burning is compromised. Now, there's nothing wrong with a 5-10 minute warm-up on the treadmill beforelifting weights, but if you're planning to really scare your fat cells do it after you lift. " Posted by September 5, 2004 I hope this helps...I know it helped me when I planned my workouts and I've noticed a difference in my endurance when I do my weight training. Good luck and have a lovely day! -Ruth I do the same thing except in a bit of a different order. > Silly me, I did mean cardio. I workout on an eliptical machine 20 > minutes a day - everyday. Guest guest
Peggy - Good for you! It is stories like this that really give me hope! Donna > > I am almost 5 months post-op and have been given the okay to return to low-impact aerobics as long as I don't do any significant bending, twisting or lifting. It feels good to do the leg and arm movements though. I have a couple of TV shows I record from Fit TV and just march in place or step-touch with the parts I can't do yet. I can't walk here as the mosquitoes and heat are too much outside and I don't have a treadmill. I was tired of just doing the TheraBand exercises from PT. I used to do aerobics 3x/day so I was really starting to miss it. BTW - 26 days off OxyContin now and still painfree! > > Peggy >

Guest guest
I have been doing water aerobics 4 times per week since June. I love it! I can also work my arms with up to 5 pound weights, but so far I am only up to 4 pounds. No lifting overhead and I have to sit or lie down to use the weights. I keep a 3 pound set on my desk at work and use them when I can. I don't do all the exercises that everybody else does in water aerobics. I have been using a flotation belt and going in the deep end so that I have no impact on my spine. Tonight I tried it without the flotation belt and got a better workout. > > I am almost 5 months post-op and have been given the okay to return to low-impact aerobics as long as I don't do any significant bending, twisting or lifting.
