Carol - when I had mine earlier this year I was totally alone also. My

husband couldn't take off work to be up there and our son is 33 and

longgg gone out on his own. It really wasn't too bad as you aren't

really feeling up to company anyway. And when you are better, they

never leave you alone between PT, OT, and such. So no worries....it

will all work out. :-)

Carol V....Wow...DrHu works Columbus Day? Thats dedication. Okay...I

will put it on the calender.

It is daunting being in a city without family, but in my case it

went fine. Truthfully, for me, the first couple days after surgery I

was sooo tierd I barely stayed awake when Petet came in....and I

liked being able to just sleep and not try to rise to the occasion

of " visiting " . Once I started to feel better I could chat on the

phone and doze, do PT and before I knew it I was through the day.

Pete and Matias did come visit over the weekend, but even then I

shooed them out the door to go " do " the city....they had fun and I

didn't have to stay " rallied - up " all day.

It is hard to know, but I suspect the nursing staff noticed there

wasn't a lot of family around and were very attentive.

Anyway, we will all be calling and checking in too....you won't be

alone....and I promise if you listen real carefully you will hear us

all rooting for you!!

Take Care, Cam

my husband has finally admitted that he has been so cranky because he

is scared about moving my surgery up because he is afraid he won't be

able to take off to be there.

I have been wracking my brain to see if I can think of anybody who

could stay with me (that I would enjoy having around). I am afraid

that the second ex-husband would not be acceptable (besides the fact

that he has hospital phobias and his sister literally had to beat him

up the first time I was in the hospital when we were married). Other

than that, he was great at taking care of me.

You do realize that not everyone gets off Columbus Day? Actually very

few do. I normally have to work that day--and I work for the county.

The schools don't get it off, either. I think only State and Federal

Governments (including the postal service) get it off!! Thank

goodness she doesn't take it off, or I wouldn't be able to get up

there!! LOL!!!
