Guest guest
Hi, Background - Three months ago, I took 4 Levaquin pills that completely devasted my life to date to clear up a sinus infection (couldn't finish the prescription because of ADR's). I won't get into the devastating effects of the Levaquin here as I guess it isn't relevant. Anyway, the Levaquin didn't clear the sinus infection and I took a Z Pack. While on the Z pack, the diarrehea started. I had it bad for 2 or 3 days and now just have it once in the morning when I should have my regular bowel movement. I was also having some stomach discomfort and pain and gas but I don't know if that is from the Levaquin or not. I have had horrible gas for a long time now. I saw my doc's on-call partner about 3 weeks ago and he ordered a stool sample. Everything was normal except for a 3+ candida albicans. (Could somebody please tell me how bad this 3+ may or may not be as I know that this is a yeast that everyone has in their colon.) My doctor called me the next week and told me that he was calling in a prescription for Diflucan for 5 days. Before picking it up, I researched it and found that it is very hard on the liver and right now, trying to get through these horrible ADRs from the Levaquin, I didn't think it was the right drug for me. I am horribly afraid of drugs right now. The Levaquin totaled my body. I got an appointment with him to discuss how bad this yeast infection was but I didn't get any answers. He said to see the GI specialist I was scheduled with the next week and just take some fiber pills until I saw him. So, I saw the GI on Tuesday. I just wanted to know about the yeast. He really didn't have much to say about it except that " you're taking the Diflucan right " . I said no, that I wanted to talk to him before I started it. He said that we was ordering a colonoscopy and just blew off the yeast issue (as if it wasn't serious and I'm hoping it isn't). He said that we would discuss the yeast after the colonoscopy and that the yeast wasn't causing my problems. I'm not sure if I am having the colonoscopy or not as I really can't afford it. I started taking a garlic clove a day about a week ago and cut out sugar and other foods that I found fed the yeast on the internet. I hope that if necessary that I can fix this holistically. I would be willing to take Nystatin if needed but have read that garlic is just as good. I've already lost some weight due to the Levaquin and am only 122 lbs., 48 years old, and 5 foot 4. This diet is causing more weight loss and I hardly want to eat as nothing is appealing to me. My question is -- is this 3+ candida albicans so serious that I need to be worried about it right away or can it wait until I recover more from the Levaquin? What would be a normal amount of yeast in the intestines? Thanks so much.

Guest guest
Hi Shybasset, Thanks for writing. I recognize you from the quinolones board. I was a member for a while but had to unsubscribe because it was taking over my life. I was getting so depressed reading about the people who weren't getting better. Major depression. I still read the board every day but try not read too much. I have horrible anxiety and panic attacks that stem from my early childhood so constantly reading about the horror stories and people not getting better -- only getting worse -- was not helping me with my recovery or hopeful recovery. Anyway, you asked how long I took the Levaquin. I took 4 750mg pills of Levaquin in May. I started reacting after the 3rd pill and why I took the 4th, I'll never understand. I've been having the typical issues -- horrible pain in my feet and thighs, shoulders, arms, tremors, tics, insomnia, fatigue, couldn't even hold up a book to read because of weak muscles. There are/were alot more but I'm so tired right now that I can't think. Some of this has subsided to a good degree for now (hopefully forever) but my stomach is soooo bad. Also having back pain that I pray is not my kidneys or some other major organ. All blood tests and urine tests have come back normal. My doc and my new neurologist both attribute all of my symptoms to the Levaquin. Only test that hasn't been normal lately is the one for candida. I know that this isn't the place to discuss this but how much better are you after 4-1/2 years? > >WOW....sorry for your Lavaquin issues....ME TOO!!! Doctors do not know how to treat candida because they treat symptoms only with drugs. They get about 5-8 weeks training in nutrition. > I started taking a garlic clove a day about a week ago and cut > out sugar and other foods that I found fed the yeast on the > internet. I would be willing to take Nystatin if needed but have read that garlic is just as good. ==>You are right that garlic is just as good, as well as oil of oregano and clove oil. Also coconut oil is very important to take for overall health and it is also antifungal. You need to read my article " How to Successfully Overcome Candida " - diet is the most important aspect of becoming well again, and you shouldn't start on strong antifungals like garlic too soon, before you're following the diet per my article. > I've already lost some weight due to the Levaquin and am only 122 lbs., 48 years old, and 5 foot 4. Also your sinus problems, etc. all point to having candida. Please read my article so you understand how candida overgrows and the 4 steps to take towards getting it under control. The best in health. Bee
Guest guest
Hi Bee, Thanks for writing. ADR's are adverse drug reactions. After 4 days of levaquin, I experienced SEVERE pain in my feet and thighs. A few days later the pain spread body wide mostly to my shoulders, back and neck. Then, in no particular order, came the muscle twitches and tic all over, the stiffness in my legs, most all joints popping or clicking whenever I moved, burning skin pain, burning eyes, ringing in ears, stomach problems, severe jerking when falling asleep, severe muscle weakness (couldn't hold up a book or fishing pole), lost weight, tingling and/or numbness in fingers, hands, toes and feet, floaters in my eyes, pain in the base of my spine, hives and a rash, anxiety, depression and insomnia. Both my PCP and a new neurologist attributed all symptoms to Levaquin. So far I have been very blessed - it has only been 3 months and alot of these ADR's are somewhat better. Not all, but a majority are somewhat better. I know though reading on the quinolone board that they can come back at any time, in any intensity, which keeps the anxiety and depression going. Although I have also read that " the vast majority of people get better, most heal 100%. However, you really don't hear from these people. They seem to go on with their lives -- which they should do -- but forget to post to give others hope. > I did take Dr. Crook's Yeast Questionnaire and scored 136. > I started my program before I found your website so I've already started the garlic along with a diet but am adjusting to your diet and supplements. I don't think at this point I should stop taking the garlic after 2 weeks, should I? I still need to go buy some of the supplements you recommend. I had one part of a day that I felt like I had the flu just a few days ago so maybe that was die-off. It wasn't a good feeling and came out of the blue. It lasted for a few hours. My stomach does seem somewhat better today. I have started to read your article " How to Successfully Overcome Candida " . I will finish it soon. My doctor told me to take fiber supplements (Metamucil) to help with the diarrhea and I have been taking those too and they do seem to be helping. Is this alright to take with your program? I've had chronic sinus problems for so many years so if this did nothing more than to clear up my sinuses, it would be a God send. Thank you and looking forward to working your program! Yours and Shybassetts experience with levaquin really makes one wonder how the FDA can allow such products on the market, and why doctors would be so ignorant. > So far I have been very blessed - it has only been 3 months and alot of these ADR's are somewhat better. Is this alright to take with your program? ==>I do not recommend Metamucil nor any kind of fibres; read articles on Fibres in the Candida Diet Folder. If you need help with digestion or the bowels see the Digestion Folder. This diet will heal the intestines and also strengthen it because of the good saturated fats like coconut oil, butter, lard and other good fats, omega-3 and oil soluble vitamins, of course along with meats and eggs. Proteins and fats are the very easiest foods for the body to digest and utilize compared to carbohydrates of any kind, particularly fibre. > > I've had chronic sinus problems for so many years so if this did > nothing more than to clear up my sinuses, it would be a God send. ==>There's help for your sinuses in the Treatments Folder (I believe), or it could be on it's own. If you want to find an article on a particular subject go to the A) Candida Files, Folders & Links List - open it and use the Find Function (under Edit). > > Thank you and looking forward to working your program! ==>You will be pleased and happy with the results you get. The best to you, Bee >
