Guest guest
Hello All, Well, I am gonna make up my mind today or tomorrow about this trip. At first glance, flight wise, it did not look to good. 9-10 hours of flying, 2 to 3 stops/plane switches including turbo-prop(! - meaning UP and Down 6 to 8 times;uggh), and airfare close to $600. made it look not promising. So I looked at map and tried Wilmington NC and, I could go Tucson to Atlanta to Wilmington for around $400 (and 6 hours flying time)then rent a car ($$$? - not sure yet, guessing $200.)... and then drive for about 2+ hours. Hmmmmmm... and Center is $300. per person, correct? So, good budget estimate for me is easily around $1000., counting my parking back in Tucson for 4 days and boarding my dogs. Goofy question: April/May isn't hurricane season is it?! Is anyone else planning to fly into Wilmington yet? Let me know please. thanks, Marty

Guest guest
Marty, Actually I think Wilmington looks like one of the easiest connections for everyone and since I imagine most of us will try to arrive early to mid afternoon sunday and return to the airport early wednesay I am reasonably sure we can either arrange a limo or shared car rental. Bonnie assures me that it is a very, very easy drive..and a pretty one, so I am leaning that way myself. I thought after we get our final numbers committed we can all figure out the travel plans from there. I think Joyce was toying with the idea of driving from Atlanta...so maybe you two could work that out? All that is to say is that your budget sounds on target and as we go along perhaps we can find more " economies of scale " ...although I hate to promise more that I can deliver at this point. As far as I know hurricane season doesn't officially begin until June, so that shouldn't be too big a worry. That time of year tends to be windy according to Bonnie, so we probably won't be in our bikini's.....but we should be able to enjoy sitting at the beach! I do hope you can do it!! Take Care, Cam > > Hello All, > > Well, I am gonna make up my mind today or tomorrow about this trip. > At first glance, flight wise, it did not look to good. 9-10 hours of > flying, 2 to 3 stops/plane switches including turbo-prop(! - meaning > UP and Down 6 to 8 times;uggh), and airfare close to $600. made it > look not promising. > > So I looked at map and tried Wilmington NC and, I could go Tucson to > Atlanta to Wilmington for around $400 (and 6 hours flying time) then > rent a car ($$$? - not sure yet, guessing $200.)... and then drive for > about 2+ hours. Guest guest
HI Everyone, As you all probably know by now, I live in Wilmington. I can assure you that hurricanes will not be an issue for our get-together. Hurricane season starts June 1 and ends Nov 1. Most hurricane activity is in August through October. Last year, we had no hurricanes at all. Despite hurricane issues, this is a summer resort area. Hurricane's don't occur very often, and certainly not in April or May. April can be quite breezy, but May is a quiet month weather-wise. The Wilmington Airport is just delightful, if anyone can use that word in reference to an airport! Most people who've been there declare it their favorite airport. It's rather small: only eight gates and two baggage carrousels. There is a Ladies Room near the gates and one right near the baggage area. There is a gift shop, a restaurant and a small aviation museum. Car rental desks are right in the baggage area. The rental cars themselves are a very short walk from the exit. As airports go, there is very little walking, and no steps or escalators to use. There are skycaps to help with baggage and a nice information desk right between the gates and baggage claim areas. There are wheelchairs available for anyone who needs one. And, being that we are in North Carolina, I can assure you that all airport personnel are helpful and very nice. The airport is no more than 2 hours from the Trinity Center. It is a very, very easy drive. I have already offered a ride to and . , I think, is a definite and a maybe. I don't think I can take more than two with me, so we have enough room for luggage. If there is any way you think I can help you with logistics, please write to me. Looking forward to meeting all of you! I think we are going to have a great time. If others are still thinking about coming, please do! The more the merrier. Bonnie [ ] Re: N.
