I am frustrated today

I went to the hospital at 8:15 this morning for my myelogram and CT

scan of the pelvis/iliac crests. I rated my pain at a 1 when they

first examined me, but after 4 hours of sitting in that

uncomfortable reclining chair, I was up to a 4.

Then, they finally took me back for the procedure and the doctor

kept trying to poke the needle into my lumbar spine. He said he

tried everywhere he could try, and there is just too much bony

growth back there to get the needle in.

He also chastised me for using profanity when he stuck the needles

in (but at least I did have some nice IV meds before he started)

Well, gee, doc, do you suppose you can't get the needle in because I

am fused from T10 to S1?? Did you read the script and see that it

said I would probably need a cervical puncture??

So, they did some cervical xrays and sent me on for the pelvic CT

while those were developing.

Then, they told me I could go home. WHAT?? I have sat here for 6

hours on one of my few remaining days of vacation for NOTHING???

Well, I did get the pelvis CT, but my husband could have done that

for free.

Then, my daughter drove around a ROAD CLOSED AHEAD sign, and turned

into a road leading into a gated community to turn back around.

There were a long line of cars waiting to leave, and before I could

finish saying " you should wait until the gate shuts before you try

to move " she had already run into the damn gate.

Despite the drugs, I drove the rest of the way home. Now I am going

to go take a nap.

When I first got to the office, my blood pressure was 119 over

something. After they told me to go home without getting the

myelogram done, it was 157 over something.

ARRRGGG!!

At least I don't have to spend the day in bed tomorrow. I wasn't

looking forward to be in a reclining position (just a slight

elevation) and laying on my back for 24 hours. They said you should

stay on your back because the pressure helps the puncture heal. And

drink lots of non-caffeinated fluids to help get the dye out of your

system, because it is heavy and can cause some discomfort.

I go back on Sept 13 for pain management, so they will try then.

After I complained, the nurse got a copy of the order and said it

said MAY need cervical puncture and the doctor didn't want to risk

it if it wasn't necessary.

I am still not quite sure why they have to go all the way up to the

cervical spine. Wouldn't the thoracic area above the fusion work as

well?

I hate days like that. I often end up saying what the heck did I get

out of bed for. Didn't the guy use a live xray machine. It would

have at least guided the needle. Man, you deserve a vacation.
