Guest guest
Kam, I often go sit in the zero-gravity chairs at the relax the back store by my house. They have this $4,000 massage chair there as well and the staff let's me sit there for as long as I like -getting a free massage. I dream about that chair. I have been thinking about buying a zero-gravity chair but as you indicated, they are a lot of money. Do you find that you sit all the way back (almost upside down) often? I have one of those squooshie leather couches which I absolutely can't sit on at all any more and a chair and ottoman that doesn't fit me properly. I find I am spending too much time in my bedroom lieing down because that is the only place I am comfortable. So, I really need to get moving on buying a good chair so I can properly supervise that the homework is getting done (wink). I am also looking at the stress less chairs which are amazingly comfortable but they don't go back as far...Ann
Guest guest
Ann, I forgot to copy the message before sending and, of course, I lost it. So, here goes again! Yes, I do recline all the way quite frequently. When I'm on the computer or watching a movie, I just go back as far as is comfortable (for viewing purposes) and lock in. Something to consider, my mattress current mattress was a discounted floor model and saved me about $1000. Next time you are in there, ask them when they might be selling the current models of the recliners - they do this from time to time (usually when new models come out) and the savings is incredible. Also, in '98 when I purchased mine, my OS wrote me a prescription for it so it was a medical expense. Granted, many years and tax revisions have happened since that point, but it did help. AND, it is an investment. If you appreciate contemporary furniture at all, the chairs really are beautiful. Mine is navy blue leather with a rosewood base (ex-hubby picked it, but I've grown to love it anyway) and is quite classy. I ended up buying a laptop caddy with a cherry finish and it works well enough with the rosewood. I am not familiar with the stress less chair, but will check it out and compare. Also, I've discovered that resources for parents are much tougher to locate than resources for students! But, I haven't forgotten. The one thing that keeps popping in my head is " Parenting with Love and Logic. " If you are not familiar with it, look it up - it's priceless! My sweetie and I (who plan to skip parenthood) took a Love and Logic class a year ago to help us as educators and we both use the principles regularly...even with each other! It takes A LOT of pressure off of the parent and puts it on the kid. Of course, as with anything, you have to be consistent, but it really works. Good luck in your search for affordable comfort (and peace ;o))! kam
Guest guest
Kam, Thank you for your very thoughtful reply. I am sorry that you had to compose it twice. I will ask about the floor models. That is a great idea. My daughter and I are so hard on furniture anyway. Nothing stays new looking around us. I like that you can lock a position on those chairs and how it doesn't take much umph to lie back (unlike a lot of recliners. The stressless chairs (http://www.ekornes.com/) do not go all the way back but they have a design where " they move with you " . I found that the lumbar support on them was exactly in the right location for me. I will definitely check out " parenting with love and logic " . I so appreciate your looking for resources for me. has been doing a bit better with her studies and even sought out a peer tutor for latin. Things are looking up though it is very hard to remain consistent. Since it is only the two of us, I often find it hard to carry through on the discipline. Thanks again, Ann
Guest guest
Ann, Ha! I think my aunt and uncle have these chairs! I looked at the timeline to see if I was making it up and I bet they've had theirs since the early 80s - very comfy buttery leather and quite easy to maneuver. Next time I go visit (we try to see them at least once a year), I'll have to look for a tag. They keep talking about getting new ones but can't part with 'em...there is also talk of reupholstering...time will tell! Hang in there with . She's bound to appreciate you in about fifteen more years! ;o) kam
Guest guest
I found these chairs really comfortable, except for getting in and out of them. I would need a floor-to-ceiling pole beside the chair to give me a hand while I regain my balance to move out of the awkward position of the footrests. Maybe there is a trick that I don't know about yet or there are different styles that I haven't seen either. Guest guest
, Annie here, how Do they work? I have just realized that my epidural has completely worn off and I can hardly walk again. All my joints in my fingers are swollen too and my neck and back re stiff and in high pain, It has been a while since this has been this bad-- next week is my 3 rd epidural. I cant wait. In mean time tell us more about the chair. Annie A poet is, after all, to see From: <the_learningtree2000@...> Subject: Zero Gravity Chairs neck pain Date: Monday, July 21, 2008, 5:11 AM Has anyone tried a zero gravity/anti gravity chair? I am not trying to sell them or anything, lol, I just wanted to share my exp with them in the hopes someone else can get some pain relief. I LOVE my zero gravity chair!! I did some research on them and was going to buy a LaFuma (which is the " budget " priced one for $129). Well I had to go to the hardware store to make keys and they had one on display there! I tried it out and almost immediately my leg pain was way down! It was on sale for $35!! It's not a LaFuma, but the design is identical and it works soooo good! The other day I was having miserable back pain so I sat on my chair and within 5 minutes my pain had dropped drastically! Unfournately when I got up the pain came back but not quite as intense. I talked to my PT about these chairs and she said they are great, another form of traction and are nice because then the patient can use them a few times a day and really benefit from traction versus going to PT 2x week for 10 minutes of traction. If anyone has any questions about these chairs or need some links to look at them just let me know, I had done quite a bit of research on them. I'm including an expert from the Chronic Pain Connection about the chairs as well. Wishing for pain free days for all of us! HUgs, Expert from Chronic Pain Connections: One of my favorite tools against aching, all-over pain is the zero- gravity chair. In fact, I cried when I tried it because for the first time my pain melted down a couple notches. Time and time again, patients try the zero-gravity chair in my office and fall in love. The key is your body's position that minimizes the effects of gravity. Your back is parallel to the floor and the hips are bent with the knees supported above your chest. It is the same position the astronauts are in before blast off. No ordinary recliner will do because the hips and knees must be bent to place the knees above the chest which releases muscle tension. This mimics an all time favorite position for most people with back pain-the fetal position. Ahhh... now that spells relief in a pain pinch. For the budget minded, a LaFuma chair is the way to go, plus it is portable. Amazon carries this patio recliner, but many knock-offs exist. Even the local hardware store might have one. For the investment in your future of feeling better, the " Perfect Chair " is the best design. Available at the Relax the Back store, this chair really takes the weight off the sensitive spine. Find a store and try one of the zero-gravity chairs for yourself. ------------------------------------
Guest guest
Hi Ann, it hurts me just to read your letter. I dont know where you live but there is a system of Chiropractics that I have developed my style from and is based on Gonstead. They may not get quite the results as you can see on my website.... www.bodytune.us  but they are light years ahead of regular chiropractic.  You can try to find one on  www.gonstead.com ...one with a diplomate status or one that has been around for a while may be a good start. If you go to www.bodytune.us and look at before and afters xrays you will note that the spines are steighter in the post xrays. The streighter the spine the less pressure on the nerve roots which branch off and control all of the tisue etc.. The above stands true for most of issues. You can only take a couple of epidurals in one area because they eat away tissue. If you tell me more about your history perhaps I can direct you further. Guest guest
Hi Annie, YES! The chair works great! The chair reclines into a " no stress " spine position and I love it! I've had back pain for a long time and had many ESI's & other injections, chiro, PT, surgery, ect, ect and none of that worked for me at all. The chair gives me almost instant relief when I'm in it and for a little bit after. Everyone is different but the chair definetly works for me, I highly recommend it! Amazon has the LaFuma anti gravity chairs for $129 but you can also look at Target and other stores in your area. The brand na,e isn't important, what you want to look for is " anti gravity " or " zero gravity " . The chair is considered patio furniture (unless you can afford the Perfect Chair; that's leather and really nice but also starts at $1,000), but they fold up easily and I use mine in my Living room. Hope you feel better; I know the pain you describe too well and the discouragement of the ESI's not working. Best of luck to you!
