Guest guest
Hi , I feel for you. It is so frustrating isn't it. I have been hypothyroid for over 20 years and all the while I had wished for a home test kit to monitor myself. I mean they have it for diabetics and insulin is a hormone, why not for the thyroid. Anyway, I don't think there is such a thing, unfortunately. Isn't the rapid heartbeats due to too much thyroid in the system? What meds are you on and how much? How often do you go to your doc? Guest guest
Hi , Thanks for the reply, wish there was a home test, I think we should have one to, the rapid heart beat my endo says is now due to being unfit, but never had it til this thyroid, I tale one beta blocker a day, but my tests are always noramal now for two years ,but im sure im on to much but some people get this fast heart with being low on thyroid so im not sure, I take thyroxene, 150 a day and my last tsh was 2 point 7, t4 was 14, so that was ok but it goes up and down slightly, what do you take, do you take armour, we cany get it here now, well if we pay but only very few doctors do it as its all chemical here , armour was taken off the market 10 years age but ive heard its the best, if it is I would buy it private, but my doctor says all replacments are the same, but to be honest I dont think most doctors are helpfull here, my specialist is but doctors say thyroid is like its all in the mind if we keep going for a visit yet I know from my friends it can make us ill so why is it doctors dont realise,I heard they dont get much endro training here, what do you think. >From: " O'Malley " <wildcards@...> >Reply-hypothyroidismonelist ><hypothyroidismonelist> >Subject: Re: Thyroid testhome test, fast heart beats >Date: Fri, 18 Feb 2000 14:33:15 -0800 > > >Hi , >I feel for you. Guest guest
>Hi , Maybe watch it with those heart palpitations. I would call your doctor if it continues. Thyroid can vary at times as you know. I take 88 levoxyl a day, so my dose is lower than yours. I have been on a dose as high as what you take, but over the years, I apparently have needed less. I used to take the Armour thyroid and actually felt better on it, but my doc said the same as yours about it, so end up with the synthetic version. I agree with you about how the docs try and dismiss the symptoms, etc, and maybe they don't know alot about it either - just go by the range limits on those path results. A specialist would be better to deal with, but I know with the way my insurance is, etc. my doc wouldn't necessarily refer me to one. It is frustrating. I try and supplement my thyroid with natural stuff and am interested in the Thyrodine that Kip referred to in an earlier post. Have you looked at that website and read some of that info there? Looks very interesting. Guest guest
Boy, this IS frustrating! I'm not sure what to do. Both my regular Doctor and my Endo warned me against taking any natural or herbal thyroid remedies. They both were very adamant about it. I hate to go against a real Doctor, who knows a lot more about it than me, but I'm experiencing the same problems as you guys. And my Doctor doesn't seem worried about my symptoms in the least. I have this strong suspicion he thinks I'm a hypochondriac, and I'm just making it up as I go along. I remember hearing about the regular medical community blasting natural remedies, saying that they're not effective. It reminded me of a big oil company being scared of a new gasless car engine, and scaring everyone off before they find out it's for real. So I'm worried about trying something on my own, and discontinuing my regular medicine. But I'm not going to get any better if I don't do something! Guest guest
Well, I would not discontinue your medicine. I haven't nor do I plan to, what I mean by supplementing, I mean by taking vitamins specifically aimed at the thyroid. Who knows, maybe that is why my dose has dropped over the years? I got tired of the docs saying your thyroid is fine and with me always complaining about the same old symptoms. So that is when I decided I would do something myself, therefore the vitamins. There are known foods to avoid too - certain fish and vegetables. A website to check out on the thyroid, if you haven't done so already, is http://thyroid.about.com/health/thyroid excellent info in my opinion. Hope this is helpful to you.
