Guest guest
Hi, I am new to the group. I was being diagnosed with cholesteatoma (a word I had never heard of before) last week. I am going for the surgery next Thursday. My fear for the surgery is higher than the great wall. And I caught flu now. I am taking the antibiotic Klacid and the antihistamine Piriton. Anyone has any idea can I still proceed for the surgery as schedule? The hospital has instructed me to delay the surgery if I catch flu, but I do not wish to postpone. My flu usually last 3 days, should be recovered before the surgery date. Just not sure the medications that I am taking now has any impact on the surgery? Hopefully someone out there can help me with my queries. ThankYou. Wish all have a good weekend. Irene (new victim, writing from Singapore) Meet your soulmate! Guest guest
Hi Irene A couple of years ago I came down with a heavy cold and flu symptoms just a day or two before the surgery. It was a long surgery and they decided to go ahead with it. It is normal for the anesthetist to come and see you directly before the surgery to ask about your health and medication etc. They are responsible for your welfare during the operation and if they don't think you're well enough they won't allow you to go through with it. So good luck, I hope your symptoms clear up in time. I think you may be the first Singaporean on this list. Phil I am new to the group. Guest guest
Thanks very much Phil for your reply. That help to give me confidence in sticking to the surgery schedule. My GP was strongly against it though. I guess I could take the risk. Have a nice day, Irene Phil <psmorris@...> wrote: Hi Irene A couple of years ago I came down with a heavy cold and flu symptoms just a day or two before the surgery. Guest guest
Thanks everyone, your advice has been very helpful.I wonder if anyone has tips on how to prepare for surgery -- books to read, or other things that were helpful to you. I have heard that there are many things to think about before surgery. I'm so anxious about it, especially having such a bad time after my last surgery -- I thought it would be good to be in a better place emotionally before this one. Thanks,Eve Sick sense of humor? Guest guest
I knew I was going to be alone for the most part after surgery so I stocked up on everything I would need - food, toilet paper, etc. It's really come in handy to just go out to the garage and get something off the shelf and not have to worry about having someone shop for me.
