Guest guest
small world! Kam, Kathy & I sure enjoyed our afternoon with Dr Tompkins last month. He was thrilled that we invited him out to lunch and we spent about 4 hours together. We teased him because he was late, but we told him that we didn't have to wait as long as we used to sit in his waiting room! It was a very enjoyable afternoon. Kam, Kathy & I all had Dr Tompkins -- I think Kathy was in the 60s, I was in 1973 and Kam was in the 80s. I met Kathy in the waiting room at Dr Bridwell's office in St Louis the day before I had revision surgery. > > I just wanted to say thanks to all of you that have posted your > pictures. Guest guest
Those were some of the longest waits in my life. I remember my first vist back to his office after surgery I had to go in an ambulance (they didn't have non emergency transport back in the " old days " ) since they wouldn't let me sit or stand for 3 months and I had to wait in the hallway on a stretcher for over an hour. Boy was that fun. Are you originally from Okla City? I feel so lucy to have found this message board. In all my years I have never run into another person that has had a Harrington Rod surgery and to finally find everyone here and even some with the same doctor. Guest guest
Dear Debbie, Here's wishing you much luck on your journey to find your doc! Dr. O'Brien was one of my surgeons( I had two working on my case, he and Dr. Kumar), and I found him to be great. His office out in the Denver area was always very busy, and had pretty long waits, hopefully he has improved that out in Miami. Out here he also always had a Fellow working with him, you spoke to the Fellow first, and then in came Dr. Mike( just what I called him). I had a pretty complicated case, that required more than one surgery, but post op am doing very well, nearly five years out from my last. O'Brien was well reguarded in the Denver area, and also could be seen on our local news about various cases. There are many terrific choices for docs out there, and as with any member here I have great affection for mine, it's easy to be biased about the guys that gave you back the ability to live a full life, but know there are many here that feel the same way about their docs. So while you are in Miami, give O'Brien a big HOWDY from Kirkaldie in Denver, sure miss seeing him! Colorado Springs [ ] Thanks for the Photos I just wanted to say thanks to all of you that have posted your pictures. I just recently discovered flatback and it helps to know what is ahead if surgery is in my future. I don't have the actual diagnosis yet but I have 100% of the presenting conditions. While looking through the new photos I see Dr. SF Tompkins...he is the one that did my original surgery in 1966 in Oklahoma City, Ok...what a small world.I would also like to say thank you for the information on Dr's that are familiar with Flatback. I now have 3 visits scheduled: Dr. Moreno in Tampa on 9/14, Dr. Hey in Raleigh on 10/5 & Dr. O'Brien in Miami on 11/21. I am looking forward to getting to know all of you as I start my journey.Debbie J.
Guest guest
I still have family in Okla City so I try to make it back there about 3 or 4 times a year. Again thanks for the picture of Dr. Tompkins. Debbie J > > > > > > > > I just wanted to say thanks to all of you that have posted your > > > > pictures. Guest guest
, I sure appreciate the recommendation you gave me for Dr. O'Brien. He is certainly a busy man..I called his office about a week ago for an appointment and his fist available was 11/21. I will certainly tell him you were the one that recommended him to me. Guest guest
Debbie - I was reading through the e-mails and came across your e-mail. I am the Kathy that had lunch with Dr Tompkins. I had my surgery with him in 1967. I had my revision surgery with Dr Lebwohn out of Memorial Hospital June 2003. I wasn't pleased with the dr., so I am now seeing Dr Bridwell. I see you will be seeing a surgeon in Tampa, that is were I am living. Unfortunately, that weekend, I will be in Naples. Do you live in Tampa? If so, call me. My number is 239 272 1664 (cell) and home 813 932 7301. I still have family living in OKC too. I only make it back there twice a year. I hope all goes well with your dr visits. Guest guest
Kathy, I am on the east coast in New Smyrna Beach so will have to make the drive over to Tampa. I'm glad to have found someone else in Florida that is on this board. Once I complete the 3 visits I have scheduled I was thinking of a consult with Dr. Bridwell. My son and his wife live in Okla City so I could stay with them and be a little closer to St. Louis. I would love to have a consult with Dr. Lagrone in Amarillo but he isn't on my insurance. We must be pretty close in age since you had your surgery in 1967. I am now 54 and had my surgery in 1966. Dr. Tompkins was such a good doctor and I remember he made sure his patients were well cared for by the nurses. Please stay in touch my email is debbiej@... & my home phone# is 386-428-8869. I will keep your #'s and if I'm back in Tampa I will give you a call to see if you are in town.
