Marilyn,

I just hope I drank enough of the stuff. I drank about 2/3 of the 4 liters

but that's all I could handle. For some reason, he prescribed cherry

flavored whatever-it-is and I can't get the taste out of my mouth. I had to

go through the same thing but even worse when I had a sigmoidoscopy. Now,

all I have to worry about is whether the incompetent nurse who usually does

the pre-procedure insertion of the needle for the IV can keep from ramming

the needle through my hand and on through a nerve, like I think she did last

time. I have thin skin and veins close to the surface, so when she put the

needle into the back of my hand she apparently went through the vein and

into a nerve. Instead of removing it when I started climbing the walls from

the pain, she kept moving it around and pressing on it, trying to situate it

properly, I guess. Good thing Bob was there - he told her to take the

needle OUT! She then clumsily and painfully reinserted it at my wrist but

thankfully, they then started the Versad drip and I didn't feel it anymore.

However, my hand, wrist and arm were black and blue for weeks. This same

nurse put Bob through something similar. If I'm lucky, she'll have the day

off and I'll get someone else. Funny, I don't dread the actual procedure,

but I do dread the needle. Maybe I should rub some kind of pain killing

ointment on my wrist before she gets to me?

Geri,

I have the same problem. I absolutely hate IVs and Labs drawn. Seems as

though every vein hurts and is very sensitive. They hurt more now than ever.

I usually act like a baby and cry every time I have IVs. However before the

nurse or lab tech comes near with a needle I threaten them. I tell each one

they cannot go fishing, if they feel the need to cast their lines then get

someone who can. Bad enough having to live in a doctors clinic or lab I have

to make it easier for myself.

Jerry,

Geri another person in our group was complaining about IVs and getting one

today. When we talk to each other here we click reply all, from the letters

we are responding to or subject. Also welcome to our group. And I still hate

needles and IVs no matter how many I have had they never get better for me.

Gayle , are you sure you`re writing to the right person? I don`t

remember saying any where that I couldn`t stand needles.

They don`t bother me at all . I`ve had so many stuck in me and so many

other procedures in the last 7 yrs. that it`s

like second nature,I don`t even feel them .

Since last Tues. I`ve had blood drawn 7 times ,a biopsy, and an IV in me

for 2 days and when I wasn`t hooked up I didn`t know it was in me. Love

talking to you but my name is Jerry notGeri ( I`m a male)

Maybe there is a mixup in Email addresses. Dont let me scare you off

write any time.

Geri,

The procedure is probably all over by now, but I would have suggested you

get the anesthesiologist to put the IV in. They seem to be better at it.
