Guest guest
Hey Vonnie... Good to hear that you made it home and are gathering your strength for the next round! I know it is hard to imagine that you will be going under again, but I am sure you will quickly find yourself at a point where you want to move on and just get it all over with....kinda like having the surgery in the first place. I am sending you the very best recovery wishes! Cam
Guest guest
Vonnie, I got myself into a really hellish situation when I let my self get really blocked up. I was taking colace and eating prunes and other fiber, and walking but that wasn't enough. It was probably the worse thing about my entire A/P experience. I gave myself an enema. It was Fleet and it was oil based and that did the trick...but I would ask Priscilla for advice. Just don't wait too long. Ann
Guest guest
Vonnie, The medications given for pain control tend to be very constipating. You do not want to let this situation get out of hand! I found using the Dulcolax suppository worked well as the first step and sometimes a shot of Milk of Magnesia when it seemed like it was warranted. Lots and lots of water. (note to those awaiting surgery....probably wouldn't hurt to have these items, or others like them, on hand for when you return from surgery...chances are good you will need them). I would also recommed you call Priscilla and let her know. There are other options....but the main difference between you and me was that I was in Rehab the first time I encountered this problem and the nurses were on it. I remember a nurse that recommended and made me her special cocktail...which was warmed prune juice with the required dosage of milk of magnesia right in it first thing in the morning. It actually tasted pretty good...and since at the time I was trying to stay off coffee since that can dehydrate...it kind of substituted for the warm coffee drink in the morning.....kinda.. Again, I do not know what they expect you to do for walking...you should verify with Rands office. I was only doing a little bit of walking the halls at rehab in between...not very far to be sure. If you have questions I know they will want to answer them...you shouldn't feel like you are bugging them. Good luck! Cam
Guest guest
Dear Vonnie, Glad to hear you are doing well, except for your surgical pain. Thought I'd chime in on the making yourself "GO" line, try Citrucel, by the laxitives in the grocery store. Fiber without having to mix it with water, comes in capsules. Worked wonders for me, and nothing else worked. Re: [ ] Re: doing well-Vonnie Cam,I am having trouble going to the bathroom now.Did you have trouble and what did you use? I have tried a few things from the cvs and am eating fruit and salads and beans and whatever else I could think of to go.Tell me whats the trick and did it take you a while to go? And am I suppose to be out walking now? i don't think I can walk that far right now..I was going to go out in front of the house this afternoon just go back and forth a few times? I don't remember them telling me to walk now or is it after the 2nd stage? Thanks for the help. Of course the day of surgery it is a "redo" down in the pre-op area when they get you ready.Since the second surgery will be anterior they will probably call you and go over the bowel prep again.....fun!!!Take Care, Cam New Messenger with Voice. Guest guest
Vonnie – My general doctor is monitoring my pain from my surgery on November 8th. The first time I saw him (approx. January, 2006) he asked how my bowels were (lovely). I told him since I was on the Fentanyl and Percocet – I was having problems and I was taking Milk of Magnesia. He prescribed “Polyethylene Glycol 3350 NF Poser for Solution. Fortunately I didn’t need to try it – it looks like you mix it with water and drink. I’m sure it does work well though. Guest guest
Polyethylene Glycol. I know they sometimes put that in edibles (as well as cosmetics), but doesn't it sound like something you'd put in your car?! :^) Sharon RE: [ ] Re: doing well-Vonnie Vonnie – My general doctor is monitoring my pain from my surgery on November 8th.
