Thanks, Suzie.

I have thought about the haircut and am still pondering what style

will suit me best post-op. I've been growing my hair out - usually

keep it pretty short - because I love to wear it in dog ears. I

would like to let it get long enough to braid that way cuz I thought

that might be easy...OR, I can chop it all off again, but then I

would have to dry it every day because my " cow licks " require such

when my hair is short. I've also considered a perm but it's been ten

years since I've done that and I don't think I liked it last time.

I, too, have extremely sensitive skin and am very careful about what

I put on it. Fragrance is almost always a no-no and to top it off, I

have oily skin - complex combination! Great suggestion to make sure

I am stocked on those " special " products... and I remembered when I

read it about the lips - so true!

We are snackers anyway - I'll make sure we have plenty of our

healthy snack bars and breakfast bars handy.

Ah, socks!

When I had my first or second surgery, someone bought me a stuffed

apple with a cute little face and arms & legs and a fabric pen and

everyone who came to see me signed it. It's still around somewhere.

That was kinda fun, but too hard to track for practical purposes. My

husband has a journal with him 24/7. I have one as well, just not

24/7. Maybe I will buy a " special " one for the trip.

As for the hair removal stuff, my skin is so sensitive, it makes me

nervous. Maybe I'll test a small area and see how it goes...

Thanks again, Suzie! Super suggestions!

Kam,

I managed to keep my hair long...shoulder length.. through the

ordeal...braids or pigtails will work...Martha might know better for

, but I was allowed to shower and shampoo day 4/5 (after the

catheter was out).

Socks might be necessary...but at NEBH they had me in pressure hose my

whole time there. You will want to find and bring some very easy to

get on, but good gripping, shoes or slippers. At NEBH the PT brought a

sock like children have that had those rubber stickies on the bottom.

When I went for longer ventures I liked having a little more than a

sock.

You will feel very nervous if you feel like you can slip or slide.

You will not be able to bend over and/or tie anything for awhile after

surgery....I am sure of that!!!

I can't remember who suggested it before I went in...but after surgery

you will probably come out with pressure cuffs from the knee down

(prevents blood clots)that inflate and deflate every ten minutes or so

(very annoying when you are trying to sleep) but with the hose on, if

you have long hair on your leg you may get irritated, so it really is

worth it to at least get a low leg wax before you go in....see it's a

medical necessity! Cam

Cam,

My goodness, you must be a lot younger than I was when I had my revision surgery, and/or you become stronger and heal an awfully lot faster than I do. Showering and shampooing 4/5 days after surgery would have been totally impossible for me. I left the hospital on day 9 and spent the next two and a half weeks in a rehab facility before I could go home. It took me that long to be able to get out of bed by myself and take care of myself in the bathroom. I don't mean to frighten anyone, but I think it's important to note that we all heal at different rates.

- it's not that bad of a nightmare. I've gone through each and every one of my surgeries with my hair colored and my acrylic nails painted, and never a word said - either before or after the procedures. And this was with different doctors and hospitals also. I'm not sure how this rumor got started, but you can relax. Our problems are large enough without having to be concerned about our hair and nails!

spring......I am going to be having the surgery at a bad time all

around, son going to college next Fall, my boss is retiring so I will be

reentering my job with a new boss after I have surgery...just too much

change for me all at once..sounds stupid I know......

Hi ,

The anesthesia from what I gather can alter how well your color takes and if your perm does as well. You can also have hair loss due to it as well. I talked to the gal that does my hair and she said that you shouldn't have either done before or for a period of time after as well because of this. So, I figured why risk it.

Hi KAM! Yaa-hoo to being out of the hospital!! How long until you see the doctor again? I pray that you are on your way to a smooth recovery! The best thing that I can tell you is that you REALLY have to do what you are supposed to do and nothing more!! You owe it to yourself to take this time and heal! At times you may feel like you are treading water but all of the sudden you will find that you have made great strides. Ask and accept all of the help that people offer you! And most of all know that you are truely loved and respected by many! Have a wonderful night sleep!Warmly, Suzieadvokam <advokam@...> wrote: Thanks, Suzie. I am feeling better. Kam,

I was wondering where you had been lately. Please accept my belated

condolences on your grandmother. I too have not posted in a while,

and fiqured I had missed something. In regards to your question about

my next St. Louis appt, I have an appt. on Monday 6/26. I feel that I

better keep it as Martha has mentioned that it has been hard for her

to switch appt. dates. Let me know when your next time up there will

be. If we can't hook up in St. Louis, maybe we could work on Los

Vegas.

Here's to straighter spines ahead!

Hi Kathy, I had my MRI TWO weeks ago and am still waiting on a call from Hanson and/or his office. This is so frustrating that they don't seem to care how much pain I am in. I started a new job yesterday so it is going to be tough to take any time off for appts and such. how are you feeling? Cristltxbluebelle <txbluebelle@...> wrote: I emailed you a couple of days ago. I have corresponded with Kam, she is doing well.

She is teaching a 2-hour class on top of her regular job this

semester and getting a new boss sorted out.

She said other than her shoulder pain, physically, she feels

fantastic! Her strength/endurance improves a little every week.

Right now she is looking for a massage/physical therapist who does

myofascial release.

She said she was doing intermittent checks to keep track of Sharon

but other than that, has not time to read. She says she misses you

all very much and to please tell everyone she said hello and that

I'll be back at some point. If anyone is going through something she

has been through, please let her know and she would be happy to post

her experience or email them privately.

She was off to a sminar or something in Austin, TX, is in the middle

of a kitchen re-do and (then was heading to Dixon, NM (just outside

of Taos) for a studio tour the first weekend in November to

celebrate her FIFTH anniversary. Also is getting checked for her

recovery from the gall bladder surgery. She said: " Life is good,

just really busy! " and says she " feels like I haven't 'hung out'

with my dear friends in quite awhile! "

I imagine we will hear from her after she gets past this hectic

period.

All I know! Cam

Wow, Kam sounds like the poster girl for revision. Glad she feels well enough to do all this. Please send her my regards.

I was looking at the retreat pictures. You can actually get on the

floor huh? I tried, my PT has floor exercises for me but it takes a

half a day to get up and down. :)
