Guest guest
Thanks for asking Sharon. The doctor took an hour with my interview, and my husband was there, too. He seems reluctant at this point to do a revision, but he did order more x-rays, since my last ones were two years old and the pain has progressed. He also did some strength and sensitivities tests of my legs and hands, as well as other health issues. He wants to study the x-rays and review my information further before processing with anything. So I go back on March 28 for a more detailed report. I did mention about starting the Scoliosis Association chapter and being on-line with others, who have similar problems, which may be another reason why he was so guarded with his expressions and wanting to study my case more before suggesting anything. I was a bit of a mess before arriving for my appointment, since we had to catch the first ferry to Vancouver and we were the second last vehicle on the ferry. The ferries run every 2 hours and we were there 1 1/2 hours early, but with reservations (which my husband insisted we didn't need to do, even though it was Spring Break), the ferry was already over 80% full. I was busy with other family appointments, etc for the last month, so I had asked him to check into the ferry boardings, to verify if we would need to reserve (if it was running at over 50%). Between very up-tight about possibly missing this important ferry boarding, then we had breakfast on the ferry and my husband didn't hear my breakfast request so he brought me something I have a hard time eating at the best of time, I just lost it for a little while. Thankfully, my one daughter, who has seen me at my worse, said that these little bumps will mean that the appointment will go well. Even though I don't have immediate answers, she was right, the appointment went well enough to continue to give me hope. We had decided, before going, to make a day out of the appointment so afterwards we went to one of Vancouver's gardens. Even though it was running, I had my scooter and we enjoyed what little was blooming. My husband treated himself to some new plants for his outdoor projects in the yard, and one for our neighbour who has helped him with her plant knowledge. It ended up being a 14-hour round trip and I was exhausted in the end, but my spirits are up that good things will happen. I know that I will likely not be pain-free, but I have hope to have the pain reduced to more manageable levels and no further permanent damage will be done. Guest guest
Llweyn, So glad you've got the "show on the road", so to speak. And the doctor seeming "guarded" is a good thing. I remember a year ago, just beore my second surgery, looking the guy straight in the eye and asking "What about that procedure where they cut a wedge out of the bone to help me stand up straight (I was referring to an osteotomy, but did't even know the name for it at the time)"? He had that blank, bored look on his face like "Why doesn't she leave the doctoring up to me?" Looking back. he might have know about it but is certainly not into the more advanced procedures. I know that now. So this guy of yours will, I'm sure, knowing you know what you're talking about, be more thorough. Best of luck, Jane in San Diego >> Thanks for asking Sharon.> > The doctor took an hour with my interview, and my husband was there, too. Guest guest
Llewyn, Good report! We have a saying in our house that wouldn't make sense without a long explanation, but in essence, it translates to something akin to...without the contrast between good times and bad, the good wouldn't seem so sweet. Two weeks will fly by compared to the years it has taken to get to this point. I hope the doctor has an excellent plan laid out when you return. kam
