I hope you are posting because your hand is a little improved? You must be going in for your 8 week check up any time now, so when you feel up to it, we all are waiting to hear your news. Guest guest Posted December 2, 2006 Report Share Posted December 2, 2006 Oh, I opened your message thinking you must have noticed that I just posted my follow-up appointment on the site calendar. It's this coming Thursday, same day as our friend Ann (hoping we'll run into each other at the least!) Yeah, that's 8 weeks from discharge, which for me works out to 10 weeks from the last surgery date. Yes it has flown by, but at the same time it has seemed like forever. I really hope I'll be getting into the pool and Jacuzzi. Don't know if I dare hope for driving. I've been reducing opioid dependance at my own rate, which has been snail-like, owing, I think, to the depth of cutting Dr. Woodard required to get at the ol' diastematomyelia (great word to drop at cocktail parties!). My hands are feeling a tad better, thanks. I've been babying them a bit more, but also my massage therapist recently purchased an ultrasound treatment machine. It feels absolutely heavenly on my (still somewhat) swollen feet and ankles, and is incredible at loosening up forearm muscles so she can really get in there and work them. I've had this hand misery for over 20 years, and this thing might make a real difference. At least we are hopeful. Please give Ann a hug for me....(even though I bet she is reading this post!!) If all your incisions are nice and healed I bet you get permission to go back to the water...at least just to float around....which feels sooooooo good. I know I have said this before...but I learned that tylenol enhances the action of opiates...so be sure to ask if you can use a lttle more of that so you can take a little less of the other as you step down. Of course you do have to be careful about liver toxicity in your daily amounts...but I believe it worked for me. I wonder what the actual chances are that any doctor is going to say you can go ahead and drive on narcotics. I bet the best you will ever get is some non-committal language along the lines that you have to determine what your condition is before you get behind the wheel....and about tolerance to the drug. I can say that I have been in a car with someone who is on a maintenance program of narcotics and driving skills seemed unimpaired. I too have been in a car with a maintenance-dosed driver, and it seemed she had the complicency of her doctor, but I can't say for sure. It is my understanding that those in-the-know regarding pain-control dislike the term "narcotics" for opioid pain relievers. I actually came home on the maximum dose of Tylenol (975 mg 4X per day), and fearing for my precious liver it was the first thing I cut back. So... let's just say I don't think I could INcrease to the dose that you did. I also don't know if you weaned yourself off an Oxy..., I had insufficient control on Oxy after Op. 1 and had to be moved up to methadone. So I guess it might be a while. I had a LOT of bone-cutting in that de-tethering procedure. I will say, however, that I feel I'm in pretty good control of my faculties even at my current dosage. This stuff isn't recreational, as you know, when used at proper pain control levels. Sharon [ ] Re: Two months Sharon! So we'll see what happens..So how are you doing? I hope you don't, but if you do it's good to know Dr. Rand tends to be conservative. Clamping sounds way gentler than replacing rods. I think I'm doing pretty well, thanks.
