I've seen several dubious-looking attachments, ending with PIF and TXT. I think these could be virus-carriers. I've spent two days getting my computer clean. The virus came from a friend who had no idea she was sending a bad attachment. The viruses were KakWorm and Trojan Horse. They seem to be very wide-spread just now, and they are quite damaging.

I'd suggest keeping Norton or McAffee running in the background, even though it slows you down. Get a live update and do a virus scan pretty frequently.

Currently, I'm not opening anything that has an attachment.

Below is an excerpt from a message from Cherry's daughter. She asks that someone get in touch with several e-groups, listed below, and tell them not to open her e-mails. I don't know how to do that, and I'm not where I can learn how, right now. Could one of you contact the other groups?

"I'm Cherry Guynee's daughter (NanaCherry@...) and she wanted me pass along a message to you regarding a virus.  She doesn't know what's happening, but she has her virus scan on now and it's been running for about 9-10 hours now.  She wants to know if you know how to get rid of this virus since you had recently had trouble yourself.

Also, could please let the following groups know NOT to open any emails from NanaCherry until we find out that her computer is clean:  Autoimmune Hepatitis ; Autoimmune ; Nash ;Liversupport-Legroups."

badtrans is one making the rounds, it uses a variety of names for the attachments, several are .pif files. The best thing to do is never, ever open any attachment that you are not expecting, regardless of who it is from. If in doubt, ask them if they sent you something and what it was.
