Guest guest
- I had my period the week before my surgery on July 9th - and was on the tail end of it the day I went into surgery....well because I lost so much blood in the surgery and had to have the blood transfusions - for some reason my plateletes were very low - and my 3rd day post-op I started up again and literally flooded myself the first time I stood up. Because of that they gave me another unit of blood. I completely stopped about two days later. Noe, I am a very regular cycle person who is normal (not substantially heavy periods or anything). Well, I skipped completely when I was supposed to have it about 3 weeks after my surgery - and then got it DOUBLE (very bad) about 7 weeks after my surgery. I am now on it again and am on a regular schedule again.(almost 11 weeks post op). So....yeah - I think every BODY is different and when your body goes through that much trauma - it's natural I think to skip one or two or maybe have it double the next month until the body gets into a normal schedule again. I wouldn't worry too much - unless it doesn't get normal after about 3 months - then I would go see your gyno or something. Hope you are continuing to heal a little more every day! I am making it...just chugging along day by day. I go to my 3 month post-op in a couple of weeks....I'm anxious to see how I am progressing and fusing. Debbie > > Hi! Guest guest
--although I can hardly be considered " typical " when it comes to periods--since I am 50 yrs. old and mine vary in start date it seems every month...mine was due about a day or two after my first surgery, and wouldn't you know it, yes, it came the day after my surgery. That was the last one I had for about 2 1/2 months. Then I had one. Now they come anywhere from 20 days to 30 days apart. So, I wouldn't worry about it if I were you---you're younger than me and they could start any time now. Carol V. > > Hi! Guest guest
Hi , I started my period 2 days after my surgery, but did not have another one again for about a month and a half. I am NEVER late. So my period was off after surgery. I was about to call my doctor, but then it started a few days later. I thought that maybe that was "normal" due to the stress after surgery (?) It will be interesting to see what others post. I was not surprised to start in the hospital (a complete drag), but I was surprised to be late after I got home. Guest guest
, Like others, I too started a period the day after surgery and then things stopped for 2-3 months, as I recall. Since then, things have been fairly irregular...so I chock some of it up to menopause (I was 48 at the time). Perhaps the jolt of surgery started my body into thinking that maybe it wasn't such a good idea to have another baby!! In any event, I think it is fairly common when your body is under stress to stop menstrating...it's protective/adaptive I think. Still, if you have any concerns I would talk to your PCP or GYN...I am sure a nurse in their offices will be able to assure you. Of course if there is a chance you could be pregnant you will want to chace that down right away! Take Care, Cam
Guest guest
, I think I've told you my story, but for the sake of anyone else reading, my revision appears to have thrown me into menopause. Since it's been a year since my last period, which was between surgical dates 1 and 2 (of 3), I guess it's official. Both Dr. Rand and my gynecologist have confirmed that major surgeries can do that, though I guess I'm the first to tell Dr. Rand he's done it to me! Then again, I'm at the right age for menopause, so I guess I might have stopped anyway, but I think the timing was not pure coincidence. My internist sent me for a pelvic ultrasound just in case, but nothing major was discovered, just an ovarian cyst that went away before the follow-up ultrasound. I'd certainly tell my primary doctor if I were you, but hopefully it's just a temporary thing in your case. Gook luck! Sharon [ ] surgery and your period Hi!
