Hi all -

I have posted a picture of my before and after x-rays: My flatback as

it was in 2005, and then following surgery with Dr. Serena Hu in 2006;

in the Photos section under Miscellaneous. Quite an improvement,

wouldn't you say? And yes, I was standing as straight as I possibly

could in the first x-ray. After going through several revisions

accompanied by many problems previously, only to attain a serious

flatback causing me to be unable to walk at all without serious pain,

I can only thank Dr. Hu and staff at UCSF for this wonderous work!

,

Those are some pictures!....And a real life example that pictures are

worth a thousand words. I am so glad you are feeling better these

days...I am sure it is no small testament to Dr Hu, as well as your

being home.

Now you are walking tall and you will, no doubt, have good healing

ahead of you.

Thanks for sharing, Cam

Those are quite the pics, . It looks like you had lots of screws and

stuff in your before shot. But you certainly can stand up better now!

Wow! I guess you're standing up straight now for sure!!

If you've said before, I don't remember who you said did your revision

surgery? If it wasn't Dr. Hu, then how did you develop flatback? A

surgeon who didn't know anything about flatback and what causes it?

I've heard that Dr. Hu is very good by several people, and not all of

them have scoliosis, either.

You mentioned that you and had surgery " together " in 1977.

Where did you guys have your original surgery? Did you know each other

before the surgery? I had mine at Children's Hospital Medical Center in

Oakland, CA. We were told by the doctor that referred me up there that

I was too old to go to the Shriner's Hospital in SF (I was 16). He was

probably wrong, but I got a good surgeon through Children's. I'm sure

that Children's has improved over the years, but when I was there, they

hadn't even installed call buttons yet!! Everyone had to YELL for the

nurse. I didn't yell...they gave me one of those bells like the desk

clerks have at motels. They knew it was me " ringing " when I needed

something....I was the only one with a bell!!!
