My back problems are not, but I've been through extensive PT for shoulder surgeries and it helped. I know it worked after my knee surgeries but have never had to go for my back. The pain specialist gave me some exercises to do at home and I am to continue the ones I was taught today to do at home too. Maybe I pushed too hard. I know they say to stop if it hurts but honestly if I do that I will never get better. My main problem right now is the lower back witht he pain. Funny thing is my chiropractor use to say my knees are causing my back problems too because I am walking funny. I don't know if to go ahead with surgery with my neck or not that was an option, just I am afraid of no change or being worse so I am trying anything now to avoid that path. As to my lower back I don't know what they can do for that yet since I haven't met with the doctor to understand those MRI's. Wishing you luck . Went 2x and was in worse pain then I was before I started so doctor cancelled that! pt Hi, Just wondering if anyone has had success with pt. I started today and right now I hurt more than I did before going. I will definitely tell him that on Thursday. We didn't do much either and to think that little bit has triggered my pain levels really high upsets me. I want to get better and I sure hope in the end this works. I have the bulging disc in neck at c-5-6 and as to the lumbar still haven't talked to doctor about those results which from what I read says mild degenerative disc disease. I will take my copy with me on Thursday to get the PT's input on it though. Right now a good part of me is not looking forward to going back Thursday especially if the pain is going to be this bad. I did do all the exercises he had me do, he told me to stop if I had pain but to be honest I am in pain all the time when I move so if I listened to that I wouldn't ever do anything. Thanks for any opinions. Joy

Can I ask what is a myelogram? I have seen several people mention that on here. For me ever since the first car accident in 2000 I have never been the same. It frustrates me. Back then they did no MRI's either of back or neck the pain specialist I had then just did radio frequency so I wouldn't have pain and could do the exercises and get better. Well, from what I understand the nerves eventually regenerate and I think that is what has happened to me with my neck, which started in Sept acting up again. So I wonder now the bulging disc that they just discovered was that always there or what? I feel confident with this new doctor and I hope he can help. I am only 40 and it frustrates me that I cannot do things they way I could three years a go. Joy
Guest guest
, wish you luck on Thursday too. He didn't do too much with my neck just mainly worked on lower back with exercises. The neck he just had me look left and right ten times and he used heat in the beginning for the neck and ice in the end for the neck. He did do something where he pulls up on my neck but that really made no difference to me. I was looking forward to PT but not now after today. Hopefully, Thursday will be a better one for me. Guest guest
Hi Joy, I just started PT today as well. I have a C5-C6 disc osteophyte complex (a disc herniation and a bone spur). My therapist worked on three " trigger points " in my muscles to release pressure then we did a series of stretches and strengthening exercises which I am supposed to be doing at home. The pressure releases worked until I got home and did my 2nd series of exercises. The thing that bothers me the most since doing them is that they bother my lower back (I also have a lumbar spine herniation) even though the therapist swore it wouldn't aggravate anything in the lower back. I am really dreading my next PT appt. this Thursday because she is going to expect me to begin weight exercises. Ughhh! Now that should be a really painful day! Guest guest
Joy This has been going on since last February...constant pain! Ive done the Spinal Epidural Series(3 shots), Chiropractor,Tens Unit,PT,5 MRI's,2 Cat Scans, myelogram, nerve density test and can't believe one Neuro Surgeon didn't correct anything. I dumped him 7wks after surgery and have found an Orthopedic Surgeon(sshhhh....I know most people here swear that a Neuro is better,but......NOT IN MY CASE), Thank you for the luck! Think I just need an entire body transplant. LOL P.S...oh Im not letting my muscles get weak and just lay around in this pain. I take care of my 4 grandchildren 24/7...so thats my physical therapy. Guest guest
The pt for my lower back always made me feel better...for the length of time it took me to walk back out to my vehicle. Guest guest
A myelogram is a more defined MRI. they inject die into your spine to make the nerves illuminate so they can determine where they might be pinched etc. They also do a cat scan at the same time. Guest guest
Thanks Joy. It is sometimes helpful if I know other people are having similar experiences. I don't know anybody who has said PT is a " walk in the park " . In my experience (limited) it is very hard work. But personally, I would rather try as hard as I can at it in an effort to avoid more invasive alternatives. Good luck to you Thursday as well. I will be looking for your update and I hope it is less painful for you than it was today.

Guest guest
It depends on where you have it done. At a hospital they require you to lay flat for 6-12 hours but my dh had his done at a diagnositc center and he was in and out in less than 2 hours......they only required he lay on an incline for half and hour while the observed him and to make sure he didnt develop a headache. On release they told him to not lay flat for 6 hours, to keep his head at a 30 degree angle. If you ever have one, i highly recomend the diagnositc centers vs the hospitals...it ws much easier than all the hospital red tape My husband never did get a headache, but the guy that was having one the same time as him had a severe headache and was vomiting his guts up afterwards UGH poor guy. I had to lay flat after my spinals for csections too Joy, i think i stayed in recovery laying flat for 2 hours?? and then i was able to move around. ~~TinaMarie www.GoldenMagnolias.com Re: pt In a message dated 12/3/2003 5:38:12 AM Eastern Standard Time, john.kammerer@... writes: Thanks Tina for descriping the myelogram.
