I was scheduled for an epidural this morning, too. I cancelled it

late yesterday afternoon. Just couldn't do it. The needle part

doesn't scare me, but I wasn't sure how quickly I would snap back or

how I would react to the meds used. We have something special planned

this weekend I can't change.

Hi, Kathy!

I was more than a little freaked out, but the whole procdure was only

15 minutes and I was in the office for about an hour. I had a great

doctor that gave me enough lidocaine so that I didn't feel any pain

(just the pain of the lidocaine which feels like a pinching bee sting

- not too bad, but definitely not pleasant either). The rest of it

really only felt like slight pressure and nothing painful - just a

little weird to " feel " stuff inside in places I had obviously blocked

out since the original surgery 18 years ago.

Riding in the car was fine after, so was regular household work

(cooking, etc.) I had taken a valium since I was nervous, so I was

sleepy for the rest of the day. And today, 24 hours later, I am fine.

I could have used ice if I needed it, but I really didn't, and I am

usually quite sensitive to pain.

So, as a fearful person going into the experience, I can say if I can

do it, you can too! It's not as bad as it sounds.

I should find out in a week or so if it has really helped. I got it

because I was having some shooting nerve pain from the L3 vertebra (it

would be nerve snap and warmth just in my inner thighs, never below

the knee). I don't know how it works for generalized lower back pain,

but I'll let you know how it works me, ok?
