Guest guest
Tami, If you end up going with LaGrone, we will have our surgeries 1 week apart. I'm scheduled for July 23. I live in Dallas. I'm planning on staying in Amarillo about 3 weeks total. I was born and raised there. Not much to look at (except Palo Duro Canyon!!), but the people there are the best. Let me know what you decide. Melinda tlsun2462 <tamisun@...> wrote: Hi Jo Ann,Rain? In Oregon? Why would rain remind you of Eugene? Just Kidding.I am so glad to hear you are doing so well. It makes me feel confident in my (almost) decision so go with Dr. Lagrone. I am 90% sure that that's what I'm going to do unless Dr. Hu can give me a real good reason for her surgical plan. I liked both Dr.s and I really like San Francisco alot better than Amarillo but I'm not going for a vacation and my family, if they want to come visit, will just have to live with Amarillo. I think posterior is probably a good idea since I only need one TLIF at L4/L5. I'm sure that makes matters alot easier.?.? I have confidence that Dr. Lagrone knows what he's doing.Thank you so much for you input,Tami>> Hi Tami, as usual I´ve been "away", and it seems every time I check> in, someone from Oregon is writing. Guest guest
I have been teaching my daughter to plan her route to make mostly right turns unless she can turn left at a traffic light just because it is easier (but I always have problems switching back after visiting the Bahamas, because left turns are easier there -- I don't know why I adjust to the Bahamas easier than the USA) unfortunately, my daughter flunked her first driving test because the examiner told her to turn left in traffic -- and she did without waiting for the coast to be clear. Guest guest
Tami, If you go with July 16, that will be the same date as my first surgery out here in Chicago. Drs Ondra & Koski are doing a two- stage deal with me on July 16 & 23. It seems that quite a few people are scheduling their revisions in July now Me, Melinda, Kim Spanx (part 2), and now possibly you! Good luck with your decision! > > Melinda, I live in Oregon. Guest guest
, It's good to not be alone although I wouldn't wish this on anyone. OK, does that make this a good summer or a bad summer??? I guess both. Bad to have to go through another surgery but good to have the option and the hope for a great outcome. I'm sure that's what we will all have!!!! We'll all have to keep in touch. July surgery sisters..... Tami > > > > Melinda, I live in Oregon. About 20 miles south of Portland. > Don't > > feel bad, I can't seem to remember anything these days. Guest guest
HI Suzanne, Yup, I did drive in the cast, just locally, no highways and right turns only. Why did you have to stay in bed for three months after they took the cast off? I didn't. My only restrictions then were no horseback riding or skiing or falling on ice or lifting more than 20 lbs. Guest guest
I was fused down to S1 in my original surgery and my cast went to my knees. I was fully expecting to go out the night I got my cast off and was very disappointed to have to stay in bed for another 3 months in a corset brace. Looking back, I assume it was because L5/S1 failed to fuse. > > > > <<<<<<It also reminded me that if I turn right instead of left when > I take my > > walks around the neighborhood, I could end up at Braums (a > delicious > > ice cream store>>>>>>> > > > > Hi Suzanne, > > > > Your note about turning right instead of left reminded me of how I > started driving after my first surgery, when I was encased in that 25 > lb cast, in '77. Guest guest
Tami, Sorry it took me a few days to reply. I turned the big 40 (yikes!) yesterday and it was a busy day. I plan on banking my own blood. I have called 2 places- The Red Cross and BloodCare. Red Cross is more reasonable for shipping. Irons (Dr. LaGrone's surgical assistant) will help you set it up. He will send you the order forms for banking blood. The blood is good for 42 days and you cannot donate 10 days prior to surgery. So... with that said, you should be able to bank 3 units as long as your iron stays in the acceptable range. Some people have been able to get their insurance to cover it. I haven't cked on that yet. I look forward to meeting you. Keep me posted! Melindatlsun2462 <tamisun@...> wrote: Melinda, I live in Oregon. About 20 miles south of Portland. Guest guest
Thanks Melinda, I totally understand about getting busy (I disappear from here for days at a time sometimes). Congratulations on the big " 40 " . I remember that 40 didn't bother me much but I turned 45 in Feb. and it kind of freaked me out because I felt like " OMG, I'm going to be 50 - someday! " hahaha I will get busy with the blood when I finally make my final decision on surgeons. I expect a reply from Dr. Lagrone on my questions today so (if the answers are what I think they will be) that decision will be made this afternoon to go with Dr. Lagrone! I am actually excited to finally get this decision making behind me and get on with my planning. I want this pain gone and revision done yesterday now that I have decided to do it. I had my pain management Dr. back me down on the meds these last couple of weeks because I want the pain meds to work well after the surgery. I decided I could live with a bit more pain since I know it will only be for a short while. There are times I really wish I hadn't done that though because I'm having trouble getting through the work day even though I sit at a desk all day. By the time I get home it's all I can do to get a load of laundry done before I simply have to lie down for the night. Woops, didn't mean to write a novel here, back to work now. Thanks again, Tami > > > > > > > > Hi Tami, as usual I´ve been " away " , and it seems every time I > > check > > > > in, someone from Oregon is writing. Guest guest
Tami, I understand about wanting to be on the "other side" of the revision. That is a good idea to back down on the pain meds. I haven't used anything other than Advil for pain. BUT that barely cuts it at this point. I have finally decided to get a maid to help with the housework. I will need one after the surgery anyway. My husband is great about helping out, but he might be overwhelmed with work and all the other things to keep the house. I have really had to learn to let things go. I used to be a perfectionist about how clean the house is. Now I think, " cat hair floating around on the tile... oh well." I know what you mean about one load of laundry causing you to need to lie down. Just getting through the work day is a task. I can relate! I really liked LaGrone and I'm glad you are considering going with him. It will be nice to have another "flatbacker" there with me. Let me know what you decide Melindatlsun2462 <tamisun@...> wrote: Thanks Melinda,I totally understand about getting busy (I disappear from here for days at a time sometimes).
