Guest guest
Sherry I think if you tolerate a med for several years and then things go a bit strange it is more likely that your body has changes and is trying to tell you something - it is less likely that this particular med has a long term build up - it has a short half life and if you were reacting to one of the binders I would think it would happen pretty quickly - it is more likely IMO that you were getting better and the dose needed to be cut - the palps would indicate this. I am assuming that you had no symptoms for a long time is this true? Kerry Want to hear from those on Armour for 5+ years I am considering switching from synthroid to Armour. I would like to hear from anyone who has been on Armour long term. I ask this because I am looking at long term tolerance of this med. I had been on cytomel for 3 years and had a terrible reaction at the end. One I would like to avoid in the future. So the T3 in Armour has me concerned. If you have been on Armour for this long, please let me know your response to the following: > 1. Anyone experience panic and/or palpitations on cytomel but not > Armour? > 2. Anyone experience panic or other hyper symptoms on synthroid but not Armour? > 3. Anyone have problems with palpitations. and Fred you have sent me lots of good information. I do appreciate it. I am curious if there are any other long-term thyroid suffers with similiar experiences. Thanks!!! Sherry

Guest guest
yes I have been on Armour 5+ years. You just cannot compare Armour to cytomel. The 1.2.3. are adrenal symptoms. I have had all those symptoms on and off of Armour--gone now b/c I use adrenal meds. What you describe as intolerance to med is just adrenal insufficiency (and maybe need for iodine). Guest guest
I was told that my body forgot how to regulate itself from being on T3 for so long. I do know my hashi's tends to bounce around. I don't think I was reacting to binders, but the T3. You are right, something in my body did change. The problem is the doc's just couldn't find proof of that in the labs. But, if you looked at symptoms they completely fit and so did the fix. Now I think I'm slumping back down to hypo so looking at the best way to fix it. Guest guest
I did. I kept have terrible hyper reactions at the time, so cut all meds myself. That didn't work either, so eventually settled on a greatly reduced dose of meds. Guest guest
Thanks Gracia. Yes, this has come up before and I am trying to get to the bottom of it with the new more open docs. Guest guest
Yes, I tried that. I do need it. I also tried T3 only, the 's therapy. My temp was about 98 or so for a while, then went down again. Did the 's again. Temp went up to abt 98 again. Went on Armour. Synthroid does not have any effect on the way I feel, yet, ironically, the Endos told me it was " working " since my labs look good to them. (HAHA) I do get heart palps with both. Still am in the process of adjusting. Using ayervedic, homeopathic, accupuncture, as well as conventional providers. Someone on the chats mentioned addressing the adrenals. For me and what I've been through and the way the symptoms manifest, that is the best perspective. Also, keep focus on the liver. When I get off of them all, I go downhill REAL fast. My nails get dried up with ridges, my hair starts to thin out, I can hardly get out of bed, I black out while I'm in the shower. I get dry patches on my arms. Forget about any weight loss. The list goes on. Armour seems to be the better choice for me. When I was younger, at 17, I took synthroid, minimal dose, heart palps and sweating, blurred vision, brain fog worsened. Went off at age 22, didn't take any thyroid meds till 7 years ago, at age 42. I actually feel like I'm getting worse as time goes on, but I feel drastically worse when I eliminate all meds and supplements. It's so very individual with each case. Unfortunately, there's no one easy answer. Go with your gut and pray. Never give up. Good luck. Guest guest
I am a long-term sufferer and have been on synthroid the longest. I was diagnosed with hypo when I was 17. I am now 49. I stopped taking Armour at age 22. Started synthroid at age 42. I was diagnosed with Hashi's 3 years ago, but had all the symptoms for several years prior. I've been on Armour for about 4 months now. My heart palps were less frequent with the synthroid, but did not have any relief from any of my symptoms while using it. My heart palps have been much more frequent with the Armour, so my sleep is affected, and it's hard to tell if it's doing much good because I feel so tired from the sleep deprivation. I'm also older, and it's quite possible that the heart palps could also be connected to the changes women go through in their later 40's. Still in the tweaking mode. Hope this helps. Guest guest
HI Steph, I added Melatonin to help with sleep and it has done wonders for me - at least now I am not sleep deprived and can cope with the other symptoms better! I take either 1.5mg or 3 mg depending on how I feel. I really sympathise with you - as we get older the whole thing seems to get worse and harder to treat. I also do all the things you do - natural therapies etc and I am keeping things in check....not getting any worse as far as I can tell and some things have even gotten better - depression, fibromyalgia, exercise recovery to an extent, rosacea...probably more that I have forgotten now because I don't suffer them anymore. I think the supplements have been a big help. I agree with you - it is hard but we must not give up. Guest guest
Thanks Steph. That did help. I think I may try to up my synthroid again first. At least with it all I get is anxiety, but not the palps. Sherry > > I am a long-term sufferer and have been on synthroid the longest. I was diagnosed with hypo when I was 17. I am now 49.
