I wanted to comment about our new friend in Atlanta and her doctor

experiences. (Sorry I can't remember your name--painpills wreck my

memory)-- I ran relate. I saw a doctor about 1 1/2 years ago and he

was kind of rude to me. When he got the results of my CT (without

mylogram) he told me it said one thing, and when I got copies a year

later, it didn't say what he said at all! He had told me what he

wanted it to say. It said they were " unable to determine stenosis due

to artifact " . Now that I have had the actual CT Mylogram done, I have

quite a bit of stenosis and also shifting of the unfused vertebrae. I

think (and this for SB and others as well) that if a doctor thinks

you look well and healthy, then he doesn't want to give you pain

pills or whatever type of treatment because he thinks you look " too

good " for whatever you claim is wrong with you. That doctor kept

saying in his notes that I was a " healthy female " . Yeah, I may look

good, but sure don't feel good at all. Luckily, I've found a doctor

now that will prescribe Tramadol for me and he also gave me Lyrica

and now I've changed to Neurontin. The amount of pain that I'm in now

there's no way that the 800 mg Ibuprofen that I used to take could

even BEGIN to make a dent in it. Earlier this year I was in so much

pain that I even had suicidal or death thoughts, then I know I had to

do something, because I knew I couldn't live any longer like this. I

had never wanted to undergo surgery, either, but realized thru this

site that sometimes a person has to in order to get better. The main

thing is to find a GOOD SURGEON... and this site has mentioned about

a half dozen of the good revision surgeons...and see one of them.I

totally trust Dr. Hu and believe she knows what she's doing otherwise

I wouldn't subject myself to another surgery. They are the only ones

that know anything about our problems and what to do for us post-

Harrington types. Also read the testimonies of others and then I

think it will begin to make you realize that people undergo these

surgeries and actually have some good results out of them?!!

And Suzanne--didn't Bridwell tell you how much cm. of flatback you

have? I asked Dr. Hu. If Bridwell didn't have the X-rays on computer

or the programs to instantly figure it out, he could have done it on

the X-ray film--might have taken him a bit longer, or even until your

next visit. I asked Dr. Hu and she said mine was 9 cm. I think a

person has to have around 4 or so to be considered " in flatback "

(?) I've seen your pictures, Suzanne, and I suppose you've seen

's pictures, and I'm not trying to be rude at all here, but

you're almost as bent over as (was)but ....not quite. So,

even though his comments don't say the amount of flatback--you

definitely have it by your posture.

And now on to my news...I OFFICIALLY have set my surgery dates for

March 6th--first stage, and March 13--2nd stage. I think you already

have them on the calendar, Cam, but before they were just " penciled

in " and now they are officially on the operating room calendar. I

have my pre-surgery appt. with Dr. Hu on March 5th at 11:15, and

later that day the " prepare " app't in the hospital with all the other

pre-surgery stuff they have to do.

, I have never met you in person, but I was wondering if you

could be around that day so I could meet you? As far as I know, I'm

not going back up to the hospital before that day. I would really

like to meet you. If you have time, maybe you could go into the room

with me and my husband and help me remember what the doctor says,

because my husband tunes out the " gorey stuff " . He gets squeamish at

any discussion of the actual surgery procedure and also he can't look

at X-rays or CT scans. I'd appreciate your help!

Well, better go. Have to try to get some Christmas shopping done

today!!!

Hi Carol...

I’m happy to meet you at UCSF on the 5th, assuming that I don’t get too busy with work around that time. I’ve got it on my calendar, and we can check in with one another when the date gets close. Congratulations on getting your dates!
