Guest guest
Hi Lorrie, That is one crate of hardware...yoowee!. Did all of your hardware get replaced or is it just new lagged on to the old? I can't see enough detail...but what are the roundish white lines surrounding three of your thoracic vertabra? Those illiac screws sure do look long on the photos dont they? I am glad to hear you are out and about. My recollection was that my first " outting " wasn't until about 4 weeks after stage 2..so it sounds like you are about the same in healing progress...after all you had a little set back after surgery so take it easy! Thanks for posting the x-rays...I am sure it helps everyone to see what we all had done and got through...might even help to show it to some of the " signifigant others " before surgery...I know Pete didn't see any of this stuff until I was out of surgery...and he seemed to have a renewed sense of what the heck I was going through. As always, a picture is worth a 1000 words! I hope your shopping is done and you can sit back and enjoy the holidays and seeing 2005 out... knowing that 2006 will be great. As always, Cam

Guest guest
, I think what you mean is how do the screws miss the spinal cord, right? The screws are imbedded in bone....which kind of encircles the spinal cord. With any luck at all they will not get anywhere near your spinal cord...at least not " near " in the parameters a spinal surgeon works in. They are not screwy type things...they really are screws! When you go to your visit next week ask Dr Rand...he has a whole drawer right there by the examination rooms and he will be glad to show you what they are. In and of itself...as long as they don't hit any nerves...the hardware isn't what hurts after surgery...it is all the muscles and tendons and stuff they had to bend out of the way for hours on end to put the hardware in....at least that is how it seemed to me. More like someone the size of Shrek took a meat tenderizing hammer to the muscles up and down your back. Twenty some odd days, huh? Guest guest
Sharon, I am sympathetic!...sorry you have to do the MRI thing. I know they have such a thing as an " open " MRI if this one doesn't suit you. I am not claustrophobic...but it was weird when they first rolled me in...this was at NEBH...I thought I was going into a tube...and then my head came out the other end..not all the way but it was open...and it wasn't as closed in as I thought. I think you can bring music/headphones in with you...which is nicer than the whirling and humming noises the machine makes. They gave me a panic button too. You will do fine...although I am sure it is going to kill you to try to lay flat for that long. I will be thinking about you...good luck..Cam
