you didn't make me feel bad. I am just trying to imagine what it

would be like to have been able to walk that whole mall!

I am still vascillating whether or not to have surgery. Some days,

particularly after pain management injections, I think I am doing

ok. Other days, there is just too much pain.

I have been sleeping on an air mattress at my son's apartment.

Apparently the cat has been at it, because it really needs to be

pumped up every night. I didn't do that the first night, and woke

up in pain. But, I just realized that I have not taken any

medication at all on this trip! I have ridden a roller coaster and

been on my feet videotaping my friend's show for 3 of the 5 nights I

have seen the show. Of course, I wasn't exactly standing still --

being behind the cameras at the back of the room gave me a chance to

dance and I walked quickly from one camera to the other to vary the

view.

I am not looking forward to the boring drive home -- especially

since I will have slightly less than a week to pack and start

driving the other direction.

I am hoping to get an early start tomorrow and maybe detour by the

Grand Canyon and maybe see the Petrified Forest and Painted Desert,

too. It was too late on the way out.

Hi Kelley...

I may not be in the majority, but I don't think you need to continue

going from doctor to doctor. It sounds like you're really confident

in Dr. , and I suspect with the son's training, they're

qualified to perform a complicated surgery. There's no way to

guarantee a successful surgery, no matter who the surgeon is. If you

feel you've found the right guy, my opinion would be to go with it.

(Although I would recommend asking for contact information on at least

2-3 patients on which they performed a similar procedure.)

Regards,

But she could go into the canyon by mule or horse. Way more exciting than a scooter.

WOW! You must be in great shape, Cam! Did you put the snowshoes on by

yourself? Ha, ha! That's great! (Daydream: I'm standing in front of

Dr. Rand saying " I don't suppose you have anything in that black bag for

me, do you, Mr. Wizard? " ) :o) ~Kelley

It really doesn't take that long to get in to see Dr Bridwell. I

was surprised. I called last week and they offered me an

appointment during my next vacation (week after next). Then the

offered one for the day after I get back, and I finally accepted one

for the week after that!

So, it would have been less than a month to wait and see him. I

waited much longer than that to see the first local guy a few years

ago.

I have only been to the Grand Canyon long ago, but I think you park

and look at it from the top.

I just need to decide if I want to drive a couple of extra hours to

see the view for a few minutes.

my kids don't seem interested, but I remember the view as being pretty

awesome.

I called Dr. Bridwell's office and they offered me an appointment on

July 17th. I couldn't take that one (hubby will be gone on bus. trip),

but I was able to make one for July 31st. ~Kelley

I think with all I hear about Dr. Bridwell...he may have been the

second guy i would have traveled to see if I had not settled on

Rand...I am just so thankful to be past that point and helping you all

my giving my 2 cents , for what it is worth on my own experience and

where I am right now in the recovery process!!!!I only visited two

doctors before I made my choice. I did a lot of blapping on this board

to see who saw who and what their out comes were...I felt that this

board had better patient referals than the doctors...I had this weird

thing about doctors only giving me patients who would only tell me how

great they were...I figured here I might find, the good, the bad and

the ugly.......and here I found the honest, truthful and kind!!!!,pa

Actually, no, my husband put the snowshoes on and my friend helped

me take them off....but since the last few months have still seen

some gains...I believe I could do it myself now.

I am in good shape now. I think between having a child at 40 and

work and the onset of painful flatback I had really let my physical

self go....and I realized that had to change before surgery. It is

nice to see the payoff all the way around. I set goals and I work

toward them. Yes, Dr Rand is a very talented guy and he has a little

mojo that he sprinkles around. In my opinion some of my current good

outcome is my doing too....and also just the way the hand was

dealt.....

You might draw all aces too...

Cam,

In another post I noticed you mentioned exercising in the water. You

are so right about that! We had a swimming pool at our home in

California. We've been here in Virginia for 4 years and haven't put a

pool in yet and boy do I ever notice the difference. We live so far out

in the country that going to a public pool is very inconvenient (plus I

really am not comfortable with those for various reasons). Getting into

a pool of water almost instantly takes my pain away. It's like the

water cradles you and it's such a free feeling. I can move in the water

in ways I couldn't even think about on land. We really need to get

another pool. The kids are grown and gone now so I don't think we'd

need the big elaborate pool we had, but perhaps one of those therapy

pools or just a large hot tub. I have almost completely quit exercising

because I don't have a pool. I do the isometric thing, but that's just

not getting it!

discomfort..I just can't seem to make it around the track 2x so I

just break it up and go a couple of times a day but I feel like I

should be doing better than that, maybe up to 1 mile at a time? I do

about 3/4 mile a day. so tell me is that bad? We have had alot of

rain so I'm not out there as much as I would like to be..Do you still

walk alot everyday and how much do you walk a day? I just want

to see how much behind I am..HAHA!!! I have a feeling it's alot..

-Hey Vonnie Girl how are you??? You sound just about righ to me!!!! I

do not know how much I walk a day. I just walk. I go to work and walk

at work. I am a Voc Ed . Teacher with Special Ed kids so I walk ALL

darn day!!!!!! I am teaching extended school year so I am still

working..my choice...I wanted to keep busy and in routine.I do still

come home from work and take a 15 minute rest. I feel I need it to

get off of my feet and rest my back for a bit. I do not know if you

saw my posts but I took the kids to Hershey Park Tursday and walked

all day, from 10 to 10..we got there when it opened and left when it

closed!!! I ofcourse did not go on any rides other than the merry-go-

round and ferris wheel..Rand would NOT like that!!!!But the

significant part of that is that I was able to walk the entire park

for the entire day..yeah, I was beat after the day but I did it.It

was my first real test 5 months out after surgery....yeah, i've been

to the mall but not to something like a huge park and all that

walking, standing etc. I was just so happy I called Priscilla and

told her..I think she thought I was nuts but she said Dr.Rand would

be happpy to hear I did not go on any rollar coasters!!! Only folks

on this board would understand what a big deal this was, most folks

think " so what, you walked all day at Hershey " ...

Hi Pa,WOW I can't believe you did all that walking and up on

your feet all that time.Isn't that just wonderful and I can't wait

till I can do the same thing...YEAH YEAH YEAH it feels so good to do

some of the things I'm doing so far like walking, that was a big

thing as you know before this surgery. And to boot it even gets better

from all that I'm hearing from you and Cam and the rest of us.I will

have somewhat of a normal life if there is a normal..HAHA!!I rented a

cottage in Maine for the end of july into august and I will be taking

grandchildren so we will be going to old orchard beach and taking

them on the rides and walking so I'll let you know how I did with

that. But you keep up the good work your doing great..Vonnie -

Kelley! What time is your appointment? Mine is at noon on the 31st. I'd

love to meet you! Send me a private email with your contact info and

we'll try to arrange it... ~kam

Kam, mine is at 8:00 AM so we'll probably run into each other in the

office if it's like any other specialist's office! LOL! I will email

you and let you know my mobile phone number, etc. Do you live in the

area? My husband and I will definitely be there the day before so maybe

we can meet then. ~ Kelley

Kelley,

We arrive in STL (by train) at 11 pm on Sunday, the 30th, and leave (by

train) on Monday at 9:05 pm. Let me know your schedule when you have it!
