Hi ,

I was born in RI and am a lifelong resident. I feel the same as you

about the cold weather. Last winter, post-op, was the worst! I dread

the summer's end but hope that at this point in my recovery it won't

be as bad as last year. If it is, I can't help but think that moving

to a warmer location year round might be inevitable at some point. My

sympathy goes out to you for having even shorter warm seasons. Maybe

we'll all end up on some gorgeous tropical island some day!

Best, Dianne

I don't think there is much to know about Dr Rand. He struck me as a

pretty typical doctor when I first met him. Not particulary warm and

fuzzy, but very patient and willing to answer all my questions.

Probably more so that any other doctor (spine or otherwise) I've

ever seen.

I would say he is a very serious guy with a pretty dry sense of

humor now that I know him better. As an example, after the first

surgery I woke up with the area over my eyelids in burning

pain...very odd. It turned out that they tape your eyes closed

during the long surgery so your eyes dont' dry out. Apparently when

they removed the tape they removed some of the skin...but it was

hard to see that til the next day when it started to scab.

You would have thought I had other things on my mind but I was

joking with Dr Rand that as long as they were doing all this other

work they could have just given me an eye lift at the same time and

I would have been fine with it. He just kind of looked at me and

said that was someone elses area....kinda missed the joke...

On the other hand every person that I came into contact with at the

hospital, upon hearing that I had Dr Rand, said how lucky I was and

what a perfectionist he is...

So there you go: Harvard, perfectionist, serious but patient....

Needless to say you will have no trouble forming your own opinion!

As far as the office goes...they usually are pretty much on time..I

don't think I have ever waited more than about 1/2 hour to get in.

You must have already spoken with Priscilla...she is his

nurse/receptionist and runs interference for him. She does a fair

job of following up whenever I need anything. I probably developed a

closer relationship with her since she is the one who calls every

week for 8 weeks after discharge to see how you are doing.

Do you have to send films and records or are you just doing new ones

there at NEBH?

can miss all my jokes...that is fine with me.....usually I am not the

joking type thou...I am more of a bitchy type when in pain and as

aggrivated as I am ...pain just makes me miserable!!!!I really liked

the lady I spoke to, she said if he had a cancellation they would

call me sooner. She asked how I heard of him and I told her some girl

named Cam on the Flatback web site who lives on Nantucket!!!!I just

need to get to the bottom of this....and you are correct when

youstated that you must do all the research into how many surgeries

the doc has done etc..if I must live with this for another year until

I do all my homework well so be it..i'll survive!!!I printed out all

your questions you had posted on the files section...sorry I am

stealing your work for my own benefit..as I said before, I don't

believe in recreating the wheel!!!!!Thanks Cam!!! - In

Well Dianne, when I win the lottery I will just buy us a nice

tropical island and we can all gather there to live. I am dreading

those days of 50 below, and I know they are right around the corner,

it usually hits just before Christmas and stays through March. That

is why you see us North Dakotan's in our shorts when it hits 20

above out, we really are not crazy, it is just a 70 degree

temperature change and it feels sooooo good.
