A very cool biology site on the digestive system -- read this on stomachs!

Greetings again, It looks like we're okay to talk about h. pylori. I was

trying to be extra courteous about trying to keep to the main subject of

Candida but Bee agrees it is good to talk about these other related issues

here too.

I was looking to find some more information on the role of the stomach in

digestion. We've talked a lot about the role of stomach acid to break down

food in to chyme before it heads to the small intestine for digestion but

we've not discussed gastric motility (stomach churning) which is just as

important. There's a lot of interesting information I'd love to share with

you but first I thought it would be good to read up on how the stomach

works. I found a neat site that even has a part called " One Meal in the life

of the Stomach " .

At the bottom of that article there're links to the other parts, " Anatomy of

the Stomach " , " Gastric Motile " , " Gastric Secretions " . I recommend reading

all of 'em. :-)

I guess what got me started in this direction was that I think I saw

somewhere that people who have CFIDS and some other things we've talked

about here, might also have something called delayed gastric motility.

Basically, food sits in the stomach too long and so more acid and enzymes

are required to do the extra work... It's a bit complicated but I'm trying

to get a grasp of the basic concept so maybe I can do some things

differently. I've been focusing so much on my colon that I'm wondering if

it's time to look more closely at how the stomach fits in the picture.

Anyway, if anyone else is interested, here's a link to some basic biology:

http://biology.about.com/library/organs/bldigeststomach4.htm

I'd love to hear from anyone who knows anything more about this subject or

has been diagnosed with a gastric problem.

Thanks, ~Robin
