Guest guest
I am about 5'7 " maybey a littel more (with all the back issues I think I have shrunk) I weight about 135 give or take a pound or 3. Dr.Rand did not discuss weight gain, but if I lose 15 pounds from the surgery I will look ematiated. Anything under 125 and I look like I have an eating disorder. I am just wondering if I should try to put on a few pounds. Jolynn
Guest guest
I would ask Dr. Rand, but intentionally gaining weight can backfire. You may find that it becomes your body's preferred weight and it could become hard to keep off. PA had her surgery at NEBH, and she gained 6 lbs. instead of losing! And if the food we were fed at the March 15 dinner is any example of their food service I think I know why. Guest guest
--- Sharon is so, so right!! I did gain 6 pounds...I was so, so hungry after both surgeries...I was sneaking food until Rand gave the ok to eat regular house diet...I did not have a meal in the NEBH that I did not like....especially liked the Penne Paste with meatballs!! Oh, yeah, I did not like the " strained food " they have you on until they allow you regular food, I still can't eat red jello ..it makes me dry heave....strained cream of chicken..oh, goodness turns my stomach. Once you get to order room service...oh yeah baby...bring on the food!! If you start to lose weight Rand can put you on Boost, he had me on that..don't ask me why....I was not losing a pound...I was drinking 2 cans of Boost a day..this was before second stage, so I assume it was for extra vitamins and mineral....I recommend the French Vanilla flavor...heeehee..,PA In , " Sharon Green " <sharon.green18@...> wrote: > > I would ask Dr. Rand, but intentionally gaining weight can backfire. Guest guest
thanks Sharon and PA, I think I'll just eat my normal stuff. I eat really healthy normally. I just have this fear of being too skinny since I was extremely skinny as a child and teen. School counslers use to question me about an eating disorder. I am a big eater normally and can put eat most people. I will probably want to eat a lot after as well. Hey , should I smuggle my own stuff in if they try to feed me the baby food? LOL My purse may look suspiciosly like a cooler. Jolynn > > > > I would ask Dr. Rand, but intentionally gaining weight can > backfire. Guest guest
Jolynn, I think is the only person I have heard of that gained weight in the hospital....but she did. The first time I spoke with her on the phone a couple days after surgery she was threatening to call in a pizza order if they didn't send up a sandwich! I am 6'1 " and lost about 8 lbs over the course of the month that was surgery. You figure you won't eat anything for about 6 days total and then they bring you back onto solids kind of slow...When I was there they didn't have the room service option that enjoyed, so who knows...maybe if I had had more days in rehab and more choices I wouldn't have lost. I wouldn't worry about it too much...but I wouldn't deny myself too much right now either. Cam
Guest guest
-- Heck, bring the cooler, that is what I had for my hard boiled eggs and sushi..I used cold packs. THey also have a refridgerator on the floors for patient use, I liked the cooler better. Also, I just read my paper work, I had requested all paper work from operative report to nurses notes etc...I was happy to see Rand described me as " a thin woman " so that 6 pounds I gained did not make me too fat!! ,PA - In , " leominsterhsg " <leominsterhsg@...> wrote: > > thanks Sharon and PA, > I think I'll just eat my normal stuff. Guest guest
Jolynn, Cam took a nutritional supplement before during and after. I think she may have written about it and put it in the files section somewhere...Cam? It didn't bulk her up. It was recommended by CArolyn and her dad who is a nutritionist.
