Guest guest
Hello Anne, I did have moodswings last year when I was first put on prednison (60mg) I can assure you a was a complete different woman then. However when the prednison was reduced it got better. When I started using less than 20mg the worst was over. I am now on 10mg pred. en 50 mg aziathioprine, the moodswings i have now aren't so dramatic, not so intense I think they are as they used to me. I feel like my old 'normal' self again. Many people have moodswings while they use a high dosage of prednison but this normally gets better when dosage is reduced. On the other hand it is not so strange that perhaps you do have a little despression. Having aih can be very disturbing, I find it most of all scaring. Just watch yourself, talk to your doctor and don't let this aih get you depressed. Having aih is enough you don't need a depression. Keep your hopes up, try to feel good, think of the things that make you truly happy. This works for me
Guest guest
Anne, were you taking a larger amount of Prednisone earlier? Harper (AIH 5/00)
Guest guest
Don Sorry you have been feeling so low lately....Do I remember correctly that you live on the East Coast?....Maybe just the fact that Spring is here and the days will be longer and brighter may help alittle.... Its strange thing...I love winter...but I have noticed that as I am gettting older I find myself not very motivated to get up early in the am...Its dark....Yuck...we heat our house with a wood burning stove and because everyone gets up and leaves and I stay home iit is my job to clean and get it going strong for the day...and it is usually rather cold in the am....Just this past week I have noticed I am waking up earlier and earlier...its light out and I literally don't want to stay in bed....I am up and working on the fire and getting all the animals going...put out..bring in...feed...clean up after..etc... It may be a little thing but it would be the easiest to concure right now...I wish you luck in finding out what is going on and hope that the longer days help also.... Best to you Luanne Ty's mom
Guest guest
Luanne, I loved hearing about your schedule, your life (outside AIH!) Best wishes. Harper
Guest guest
Anne, the reason I asked is that 5 mg Prednisone seems like a minimal dose (my doctor says that's about what your body produces normally), and I wondered if there might be some other cause for your not feeling well. I hope you find a solution soon. Good luck. Check with doctor -- don't let it slide. Harper (AIH 5/00)
Guest guest
Hi Anne, Prednisone will certainly cause mood swings, though 5mg is a pretty low dose to be causing much trouble. Being diagnosed with a chronic illness can cause severe depression in a large majority of people. Since you already suffer from depression, I would suspect that it is the cumulative effect of the pred, your diagnosis, and your previous depression. I too, have a long history of depression, prior to my dx. Paxil has saved me from certain divorce! <grin> Though I'm now down to 3mg pred, my depression seems to be worsening, so I've scheduled an appointment with a psychiatrist to evaluate my meds and to see if there might be an organic cause to my problems. Good luck! Do any of you suffer from Mood Swings? I have been on Imuran 50mg for one week, Pred 5mg. I wasnt sure if it the AIH/Meds or I also suffer from depression. I suppose it could be any one of the above. If any one could offer similar expericences or know any information ,I (and my husband) would be very appreciative. Thanks Anne
Guest guest
Hi Harper, I was on 3mg for about 1 1/2 years - that included through my pregnancy. They found Sjogren Syndrome and put me up to 5mg pred and then added Imuran. I am also on prothiaden for the depression. Maybe the Imuran and prothiaden don't mix. I had trouble with the pill and prothiaden together. I was put on prothiaden at about 8 months pregnant, because of depression. Anyway thanks - I'll get there (my husband will just have to ignore me!) lol lol lol. Anne Re: [ ] Mood Swings !!! Anne, were you taking a larger amount of Prednisone earlier?
