Guest guest
Thanks Andi, I seldom post articles to this list because when I joined about 4 years ago almost all the members subscribed to my liver or transplant newsletters and it would have wasted bandwidth. There's so many who have joined since then, I thought it might be good to post about the newsletters and our chats. The Organ Transplant Association site is the home of Medical Meandering and its topic specific newsletters. Most of this list used to subscribe to Medical Meandering (general medical/health news), Liver News and Transplant News. The home page is http://organtx.org and the navigation to specific areas of interest is easy. To subscribe or unsubscribe to any of issues, visit http://organtx.org/sub.htm All the newsletters are announcement only, not discussion groups, but they are dependent on articles of interest, research, patient updates, etc., sent in by the members. I hope many of you will participate. Kandy

Guest guest
BTW, I printed it up from the Web once (105 pages) then found out I could get a free copy from my state ed. dept. sent right to my house! It might also be helpful to get a copy of your state regulations. Happy Reading! B CNY Mom to Heidi 12 DS, Caleb 11 NDA, Corrie 10 DS and Mae 6 DS GOD BLESS AMERICA! Guest guest
beets, carrots, banana, and sweet potatoes have very high levels of amylose which is changed immediately to sugar, beginning in the mouth's saliva.......a no no for anyone w/ Type 2 Diabetes. Message: 9 Date: Thu, 10 Oct 2002 09:34:20 -0400 From: donnamae58@... Subject: Carbohydrates Look Axel, I never attach all the footers. I hope the Biltong Gods are smiling on me for my good list behaviour. Thank you for reminding everyone! I see there is a thread about carbohydrates, with many ER adherents seeking to substitute " good " carbs for " bad " . Bottom line, get your carbs from veggies like carrots, or fruit like a banana. the If you feel you must have grains, then you are a Carbohydrate Addict, and you should pick up the book, " Carbohydrate Addicts " . It is a slim volume, written by two MDs, no less, and there is NO EXCUSE not to read this now. The doctors explain the chemical process that happens as grains/sugars are ingested, and break down very rapidly, causing surges of insulin and adrenalin which go straight to the brain, and cause havoc with the normal hunger signals (as well other other stuff involving cognitive thought and emotional balance). There is no room to reiterate the book here (Axel will be so mad if I do!), but the bottom line is: the more carb (of the grain variety or starchy veg like sweet potato)/sugar you eat, the more you want. It creates a cycle where you are always hungry, always craving more carbs. There is a questionnaire in beginning of the book, and you answer questions about your eating habits, and how often you feel hungry, how hunger effects you, what you crave, etc. Quite eye-opening. -- Jaen Treesinger Bengals from the RainForest ........amazingly smart, incredibly fast and just gorgeous! Guest guest
Hmmm...perhaps that is what is happening to me But is the hunger a gnawing empty stomach kind of hunger or more a craving, a need for fuel type of hunger. Mine is the former...possibly acid stomach? It is a different feeling from low blood sugar. I tend to think that has the right answer...that I am not getting enough protein and fat. Good to hear everyone's experiences. Ann From: Maddviking@... << the more carb (of the grain variety or starchy veg like sweet potato)/sugar you eat, the more you want. A nutritionist at the hospital knows my sister who knows me, so she calls me for advice. Here's the deal: This lady goes to Tijuana for a fill 3 weeks ago. Evidently, she's been throwing up NONSTOP for 3 weeks. Finally gets admitted to the hospital today. She's in very bad shape and has lost 30 pounds in 3 weeks and she's almost unconscious. She's been banded for 2 years. The hospital has been unable to unfill her. They can't figure it out. I gave her Dr. Neal in Olympia, and Dr's Watkins/Montgomery phone numbers in Everett. Is there anything else I can do to help this poor woman out. Does Inamed have a hotline? I'm not even sure if she has an inamed band, or not. This is crazy. HELP!
