Diabetes, cholesterol and thyroid?

Hi -

I am just wondering whether being hypo puts us more at risk for

diabetes and high cholesterol...I had my appointment with my endo

the other day and showed him the hair that has been growing on my

face. He did not think it was a result of the synthroid but rather

it could be pre-diabets or polycystic ovarian disease. My HBA1C

level was 6.2. and my cholesterol level jumed 15 points in 6 weeks

to 213. I was really shocked because I was trying to take better

care of myself since I had started the synthroid. I have changed

diet, eating tons more veggies, removed all sugar and white flour

etc., from my diet and have been exercising for about 1 1/2 hours 3-

5 days a week. It seems the more I try to take care of myself,

the sicker I get. I looked at the risk factors for adult onset

diabetes and I have none with the exception of being overweight and

I really don't think I have PCOD. My endo is going to do a 2 hour

glucose test on Monday and had suggested a med called glucophage

which he thinks will help me with the weightloss. Have any of you

experienced this?

I am Hypo and just started taking Armour Thyroid today. I

have high blood pressure, high Cholesterol and according to the glucose test, I

am on my way to becoming a diabetic. I believe this is all due to being on

Synthroid and not Armour for the last 1 1/2 years. I am sure I was Hypo before

I even got meds because the test were always " normal " .

Kathy, be sure you get enough meds to make symptoms go away. If your doc

treats you to the TSH you will be undertreated.

You really should read some books on hypothyroidism, especially

Hypothyroidism: the Unsuspected Illness by Broda MD. With

appropriate treatment many " diseases " go away. It is a real mystery to me

that endos don't know about hormones and connections.
