Guest guest
Hi , TSH is a pituitary not a thyroid hormone. TSH regulates thyroid hormone levels over time with a 6 week lag. In Graves' disease this lag can be much longer so there is no real benefit from this time for your situation. Tests for FT4 and FT3, which measure your levels of free thyroid hormone, are used to tell if your levels have changed and what your true thyroid hormone status is. Take care, Elaine
Guest guest
I was 144 as diluted. TSH TEST I asked the doctor yesterday what my reading was on my TSH test and she told me " 20 " . I asked what the normal is and she told me " 2.0 " . WOW, how bad is 20! What does this mean? How can I be that far off but I'm taking synthroid? At the time I got tested, I was on synthroid 175. She has since put me on 200. Has anybody heard of someone testing 20 before?

This is especially true with Hashimoto's in which antibody activity, which is affected by stress, illness, etc., can affect your TSH. Guest guest
I think I have a lazy pituitary, cause my Free T3 and T4 drop to about half of the lowest value of normal, and my TSH never went higher than 4.5. This is one of the problems that caused me to go untreated for so long. Maybe I should have the TRH done again... Anyway, this woman must have been a week away from myxedema coma or something, poor thing. I can't imagine how bad she must have felt - or you, at 78. Guest guest
Hi Carol. Upon diagnosis, my TSH was 47. I often wonder myself how people who are diagnosed with a higher number must feel because at age 30 with a TSH of 47, I thought I was dying. I really did or I probably would not have gone to the doctor. That was mid-August. In the beginning of October, my blood tests revealed that my TSH has gone to 13. While I know this is still fairly high, I know I am feeling better. I am so thankful, too. If in 8 weeks, my TSH hasn't changed more toward the good, I am going to take 100mcg. of Levoxyl instead of ..75mcg. My T3 uptake was 38.8 and my T4 was 6.55. Exercise and diet are new concepts to me, but I feel that has played an enormous and significant role in getting to target and just pray that I don't teter on the high end, in between, or fall into a hyper range. I am so eager to be normal and someday try again for a bundle of joy. The one thing I have not asked is if I have Hashimotos type. While I assume I do since it is a familial condition, I did not ask for my antibodies results. On one lab results it was incomplete and on the second, it is not listed. Good Luck! You'll be in my thoughts. Karol Carol <racechasers@...> wrote: I asked the doctor yesterday what my reading was on my TSH test and she told me " 20 " . Guest guest
yes mine was 24 with Unithyroid at 75mg using for over 1.5years. then I find a center for 's treatment and used just T3 then it went down to LT 0.01 in about 3 months. I am still on T3 and decreasing the dosage right now and my next test is due in November. Guest guest
Can you give me any background info on how you are doing with t3--how much of it do you take? and how you take it and how has it helped you. Do you take anything else with it? We only were able to do t3 for 3 weeks --temps were all over the place, she went from 20mcg to 40mcg and when she upped it she became too sick from it. I still wonder because she felt so good for those 2-3 weeks if we should try it again. But we need new test numbers now and we need to follow up on the mri. Being on the glandulars has been a more balance state in regards to temps. and BP. It's just a long recovery this way if indeed we recover at all??? You always second guess yourself. But my daugher is able to function almost normal and that is what is important right now with school. if she were home I would be trying other treatments. I just told her on the phone how to release some of the stress, to stop worrying about her future, to realize that some of this is from the illness, this is a big part of the picture of thyroid diseases. Anyway always interested in hearing how others are handling this illness, thanks tina > I asked the doctor yesterday what my reading was on my TSH test and > she told me " 20 " . Guest guest
actually at the beginning I lost some weight with T3 but not a lot and my body temp raised from 96 degrees F to 98 degrees F. onec you reach the nortmal body temp which is 98.2 degrees F then you start degreasing the dosage of T3. I was taking it in the mornings and not eating any thing after that for 2 hours. it is a capsule so there is no way for me to put it under my tongue and let it dissolve. anyway my mood swings gradually stopped now and I started Armour. it has been 2 weeks. also I am going to acapuncturist twice a week. finally my weight is under control after 8 weeks. in addition to that I am taking, Vit C, Vit A, Vit D, B12, B6, Selenium, pregnenolone but all of this were based on the blood test results. let me know how is your daughter doing, nuran tina83862 <tina8386@...> wrote: Can you give me any background info on how you are doing with t3--how much of it do you take? and how you take it and how has it helped you. Guest guest
she could not reach this temp or even go though a day without it moving up and down. This is when we started to look into other conditions and I joined this group. Trying to find out what went wrong. I have written to Dr. as well. Are you Hashi's as well? I posted an extensive list of vitamins to take for hypo's from www.ithyroid.com on their supplement list---this is worth looking into big time. We are also taking in many supplements and now having hair analysis done to figure out how we are doing. tina -- In hypothyroidism , nisik <nisik71@y...> wrote: > actually at the beginning I lost some weight with T3 but not a lot and my body temp raised from 96 degrees F to 98 degrees F. > onec you reach the nortmal body temp which is 98.2 degrees F then you start degreasing the dosage of T3. Guest guest
-This is our last option and I know how you feel about it but she won't take it unless she has no choice. She is doing so well now, everything but the period has come back. She is taking progesterone now as well. You know I appreciate all your advice!! tina -- In hypothyroidism , " Gracia " <circe@g...> wrote: > > I think she will need cortef. Guest guest
Hi Jodie, You should ask your dr to do a thyroid hormone test in addition to the TSH, which will let you know if you have abnormal amounts of thyroid hormone in your blood - this is what causes the symptoms, not the TSH level. Do you have symptoms of hyper or hypothyroidism? I ask because the thyroid hormone test you should request differs depending on whether you're too high or too low, Free T4 is supposedly the most sensitive for hyperthyroidism while a T3 is better for hypothyroidism, at least that's what I've heard. Also, make sure you get the actual levels and reference ranges for the tests you have done so that you can keep track of your levels and symptoms.
