Guest guest
Hi Vonnie... I’m sorry to hear that you’ve broken a rod. It is my understanding the a rod break when there is a non-fusion (pseudarthrosis) and too much movement at that level. I know one other person who broke multiple rods within a short amount of time after surgeries. In her case, the final surgeon (a different surgeon than the one who did the first 3 surgeries) felt it was because the patient was being too active. She was finally put in a very restrictive brace and given very specific instructions about what she could and could not do. The last fusion apparently worked. The good news is that it’s usually a relatively easy surgery to fix a one level non-fusion and replace the broken rod. Guest guest
Oh dear, Vonnie. That stinks. I know you don't have many answers ...but I couldn't remember if you had you old rod replaced (this last surgery or your other revision) or did he leave your old rod in and attach the implants to it? I looked to see if you had posted and xray but I didn't see one. I guess I was just wondering what actually broke, I am sure you are too. I know you you have tons of questions too. I hope you get to have a thorough talk tomorrow. Are you going into the office? I will keep you in my thoughts and hope to hear what you find out tomorrow. Guest guest
Vonnie, I agree. NO blaming yourself. How many times a day do we have to say " do I really need to do that? " and " Is it worth the risk? I will have to work double time not to blame myself. I know it is hard but try to stay calm until you know the facts. Guest guest
Vonnie, I am glad that softened my reply about blame!!!
