In addition to requesting wheelchair assistance and checking the

luggage at the curb, I discovered one more thing to make flying alone

more bearable -- request a seat on the right side of the airplane!

Since it is my left side that gets the sciatic pain, sitting by the

window on the left is unbearably painful. It is much better for me to

sit on the right side where I don't have to angle my leg. In fact,

riding on the passenger side of most cars is also painful. Just that

little bit of having to move the left leg slightly to the right to

accomodate the hump of the car is painful -- I can't make it across

town without pain. I always wondered if I sit with my legs spread

apart because of the position I was in the summer of the body cast,

but it is definitely more comfortable. It drove my Bahamian husband

crazy -- he saw sitting with legs apart as a sign of sexual looseness.
