Guest guest
WHat about being intimate after surgery? I have trouble with back pain now. I am wondering if it is awkward after revision. I am so sorry if this is tooo personal. I remember someone (Ken I think) hoping his back would " hold up to the challange " so I figured I would ask. thanks, Jolynn
Guest guest
Hi Jolynn, (And All) - When I said that, I wasn't referring to intimacy... although - I can certiainly see how it could be read that way!!! I was going to be out with my wife all day without the kids... That is so funny!! I hope no one was offended when I wrote that.... Guest guest
I'm not fused to the sacrum even post revision, but certainly until the swelling went down, I was incredibly stiff and really just did not bend at all - it was a long time, probably the better part of a year, before I got any " wiggle " back below the fusion (T3-L4). I can say that even only a matter of weeks post op, still in a lot of post op pain (I'd previously only been fused T10-L2, so had new fusion from T3-10 as well as L2-4 and smash up of the anterior fusion at T12-L2 and the osteotomy of the top of L2) and having to be, well, very careful, things were already better then! It definitely took a long old while to get used to my new body, more so than when I had the original fusion at 20 (back in action pretty quick after that one), although I'm sure that had I been fused longer originally, so that the revision was just lumbar, that would have been less of an issue - it's hard to protect your lower back when you also need to protect your upper back :op titch-- " The older I grow the more I distrust the familiar doctrine that age brings wisdom. Guest guest
It's also not one that hasn't been discussed before. (I haven't had revision yet, so I'm off the hook!) Guest guest
Joylynn, It's a good question, and it is one I asked the group when we were at another " locale " ...I think I still have a link somewhere to a site a PT referred another member too...if I can find it I will put it up in another message. As you can imagine, the last thing you will be interested in after surgery is sex. I say that categorically....you barely have enough energy to shower...but fortunately by the time my hubby was beginning to wonder if our relations would ever resume...about 12 weeks had gone by which seemed to be the number of weeks I was told at discharge to abstain. I distinctly remember the precaution about not letting any weight transfer to you and perhaps alternate positioning as a desirable possibility. Of course, there had been so many months of excruciating pain prior to surgery where my interest had been zero...so by the time 12 weeks rolled around if I had told DH we were having sex doing headstands naked in the yard he would have agreed. Gotta love 'em. Eventually enough healing took place....somewhere around 10 months I think, where I just didn't feel quite so fragile and since then haven't really noticed too much difference in the before and after pictures....of course you will not be doing any wild pelvic thrusts...but you can move.... hmm....might be harder for a man.... Guest guest
HI Jolynn, Nothing's too personal. Scoli affects every part of life. Sex is different, but doable for me! Then we got hit with my husband's prostate cancer. Life hands you stuff, but you work it out. Bonnie [ ] Please excuse me is it is out of line but... WHat about being intimate after surgery?
