Guest guest
, I don't know if the kind of stiffnes you are experiencing is what I have felt. I never had such stiffness that I couldn't stand or move on my own. I do remember that after I was off all naroctics I remember being stiff and I remember it occurring to me that in the year prior to surgery I was on fairly strong doses of NSAIDS (vioxx, bextra,celebrex)...so perhaps my older age had snuck up a little and I didn't notice it because I was on the anti-inflamitories. Bonnie makes a good point too...you said you take Ambien...is it possible you stay in one position while you sleep so long you are getting stiff from that? If it is any basis of comparison, I think you are doing more still than I was at 8 weeks. My days were pretty much at home laying down except for my walks or around the house stuff (only a little...okay...a big outting was Pete taking me to the grocery store) at that point in my recovery. When you say stiffness....do you mean joints, or muscles or both..all of your body or just legs and hips? Maybe back way off activity for a few days and see how you feel. That will tell you some of the answer. You are still in the early healing. Do less! Cam
Guest guest
- I totally agree with Cam. I was on NSAIDS for such a long time before my surgery (about 10 years - Naprosin then Mobic). Now that I haven't been taking them and I'm just on the narcotics, I think Cam is right about old age creeping up on me. I do have terrible stiffness in the AM and after I've been sitting or lying down. Dr. Boachie did say I can again take anti-inflammatories and I'm tempted to go back on the Mobic. I first want to go down in mg on the patch and go down on my intake of Percocet then I will think about it. Guest guest
, I am sorry to report that this is pretty much how I feel every morning. For me I sometimes experience my worse pain while in bed. Now, this may be because I am so busy during the day that I don't think about pain and I just fool myself. The pain I have is mostly in the hip area with burning down the back side of my thighs. I walk to the shower each morning like a hobbled old lady but come around quite quickly and go off to work. I do not take sleep meds but have been thinking about asking for some. I have reported here before that I find it hard to find the right balance. If I do too much I hurt..if I do too little I hurt. I have noticed that I seem to feel worse on weekend mornings after I have been more active into the night. Rand did tell me that I do have quite a bit of arthritis in the SI joint. I guess this explains the hip pain. So maybe what I am experiencing is not similar to you at all. It's a battle.... Ann
Guest guest
---All, I guess it is just the way it is going to be....I guess I can't expect to be perfect. It only happens in the morning when I get up...as the day moves on I am fine. I do take ambien but I also do not sleep the entire night, even with the sleep med. I wake up often in the night...I think my body is tolerant to the ambien, I have taken it for years now...it is just enough to get me to sleep/relaxed...I wake up after about 4 hours. I actually do not even take a whole pill. I break it in half, so I take about 5 mili. I am not complaining becasue I do go back to sleep.... I am going to take the advice of a few and go it a bit slower over the next few weeks, I think I got so excited that I felt so good that I just wanted to go, go , go.....I know I have arthritis in my knees so I would not be surprised at some point if it showed up in other areas.... I am taking it easy today, lunch with a friend and off to a hockey game, ice hockey, so it will be cold...yuck..for the last game of the season ..this is for the championship, I can't miss this one..I missed alot when I was in Boston for the surgery..... Ann, how old is your daughter again?? 12 or 14?/ I have a 14 year old daughter...aren't they fun at this age!!! ,PA In , " ae_mcd2003 " <ae_mcd2003@...> wrote: > > , > I am sorry to report that this is pretty much how I feel every > morning. Guest guest
Hi Ann... Are you on neurontin? I think that burning thigh pain is a relatively common post spine surgery symptom that can be controlled by neurontin. Guest guest
, Going out to lunch and then to a hockey game at 8 weeks post revision is taking it easy? That's a lot of sitting in one afternoon. Wow! At 8 weeks post op I was still pretty much house bound and still sleeping in a hospital bed in the living room! You are doing very, very well. Guest guest
---Bonnie, Ok, I am going to consider myself in pretty good shape then!!!I guess the better you feel the more any set back or ache or pain makes you stop and take notice. I hate to complain but one other thing I noticed also is my butt muscles are so , so sore after a day of alot of walking..I am sure this has to do with new muscles being used that have not been used since I got my new body...Iam sure the more use they get the better they will feel.....,PA In , " Bonnie " <bonnie@...> wrote: > > , > > Going out to lunch and then to a hockey game at 8 weeks post revision is taking it easy? Guest guest
No. Neurontin is a drug used in epilepsy, which has a side effect of masking nerve pain. I think tramadol is a narcotic pain reliever. -- > > > > > > , > > > I am sorry to report that this is pretty much how I feel every > > > morning. Guest guest
... When was in getting an xray on Monday, I told her sister-in-law that I always worry about people who have fast recoveries. They always seem to have some disappointment later on, probably because their expectations are so high.
