Guest guest
Ok,, i have talked and talked to Hunt about the importance of not missing a dose of his meds. He was really trying before not to but now that he knows the damage that can be done by just missing one, he will try even harder. Don, the reason that leaving it on the table is not good for Hunt is that he hardly ever eats there and also and probaly the best reason is that he has an apt with 2 other guys so everything gets moved on the little card table they have all the time. It is really best for him to take it when he brushes his teeth but like i said, sometimes when he thinks that he will be spending the night in his apt, he finds himself in Chapel Hill. He really needs to keep some in his car as well for those unexpected trips. Thanks so much for ya'll's info. Now,, his upper back, have been hurting his for 3 days really bad..Could this be liver related? Another problem is that his urine in once again very dark. He has labs done today so i am sure we will have a change coming. They mentioned before that they are not sure the imuran is doing what it should for him and putting him on another med. Do any of you have any idea what that could be? He is do depressed. He told his girlfriend that the reason that he was not outgoing and never wanted to go anywhere is that he was ugly. I hate that so much for him. Thanks ya'll, Hope each of you have a great day Rosemary

Guest guest
Rosemary, Your poor son is really going down a rough road at this time isn't he? I know at first adjusting to accepting being sick is full of emotional turmoil. You don't know what to think or feel. It has taken me close to a year to come to terms that my life is different and I can't go back. I get so depressed that I gave in and take Zoloft now. Taking the meds is that constant reminder which sucks but I like living and I refuse to let this beat me. Even during my transplant which I didn't know what hit me. I was in a coma for 6 days. I fought hard no way did I want to die. The docs kept telling me how they couldn't believe how tough I was. Be amazed what you can hear when you are in a coma. Eventually your son will get use to all of this. I think that is how we all deal with it is just getting use to it all. The way I take and remember my drugs which I know for a 19 year old boy would not be his choice. I bought one of those hanging divided bags and put all of my drugs in it and I leave it laying on my bed so I have to look at it every time I am in my room. And the bag is big. He will find his way himself though as time goes on. Just know it is important for the drugs to be taken no matter what. gayle/trans.6-99 galye@... ^0^ `
Guest guest
Hi Rosemary, Just yesterday I was commenting that a friend of mine called me dozens of times to go to dinner. I kept putting her off, well it's a year later and I'm embarrassed to call her now. I didn't want to go out because of what the prednisone made me look like. I have the feeling we have all avoided things because of it. So it's normal to be depressed. But maybe he could seek some sort of counselling while he is. It can't help, I would think it could only help. He needs to get things off of his chest. Just listen, try to tell him it will pass, but acknowledge that it's not in his mind. We all know things could be worse but when you feel horrible and you look horrible nothing could be worse. The best I could say is be a sounding board. I can't take Imuran I take what is called 6mp (purenthol) Maybe they will try that. This certainly can't be easy for you. Stay strong. Guest guest
Hi Rosemary; With regard to Hunt's remembering taking medication, I know first hand (have a 17 yr old boy), how difficult it can be at times with all the things on their mind and places to go. What has improved the situation significantly for Raj (my son) is having all his medication for a week in one unit. Some thing made of plastic and called a weekly planner (is a long thin rectangular compartmentalized unit with lids) came in very handy for us. We put Raj's medication (for the whole week) in these compartments and he on ocassions even have taken the unit with him. It even has helped him (and us) see if he has taken the medication for the day. We bought this unit at the Walgreen but I am sure it is available at other drug stores. Give it a try. Guest guest
Depression is extremely common, both in chronic illnesses and with those of us taking prednisone. With what he is expressing, he should be on an antidepressive (I take Paxil) and also have some counseling. Studies have shown that the combination of therapy and medication is the most effective treatment for depression. Guest guest
Rosemary Hunt can get at the drug store a little caddy for his pills.....Ty has 2 different colors...one for am and one for pm....because he never knows where he will be he can keep them set up and aside to take at a moments notice....I would not leave them in the car because alot of pills tell you not to let them be exposed to the heat....but if they are set up for the week then he can throw them in his backpack and off they go....it will become a habit after a while and he won't even have to think about it....As long as he knows how important it is ...then half the battle is won...
