Guest guest
, First, never, never open any attachment unless you are expecting it from that person. Second get yourself a good antivirus program and disinfect your computer. Until you do, you will be sending e-mails to everyone in your address book that have the prettypark.exe file attached. I like both McAfee and Norton antivirus programs. Be sure to update them at least weekly. Guest guest
McAfee has a button on the front of it's main screen called update. Norton uses live update, which should be both on the button bar and the drop down menus. Both connect to their websites and allow you to download the current virus definitions. Guest guest
>Barbara Ann, Since the PrettyPark virus spreads through e-mail address books and originated in Europe, I sent copies of your message (below) to everyone I regularly communicate with. I got the answer below from a friend in Rome, of all places. Thought you'd want to give yourself a pat on the back. Thanks, and Borje thanks you too. Geri << Geri, Thanks for the warning and for the program PRETTYPARK.EXE. Fortunately I'm not very curious by nature. Otherwise I would have " tried it " . Instead I immediately deleted it, so I'm OK <g>. Your reference to the virus characteristics on the Datafellows website was interesting and informative. Their virus protection program F-Secure is extremely advanced and updated almost daily. I have caught several viruses with their program when travelling, while other virus protection programs have just let the virus pass. It's a bit expensive - downloadable for US$ 99 for a single user version - but excellent. Specifically designed for networks, I came across it while visiting a Finnish aid project in Honduras last year. Datafellows do continuously research into viruses and update their virus data files accordingly very frequently. Not every day as they claim, but almost. There would be no need to update if no new viruses were found. I'm glad to see that the company is growing continuously. On the negative side, I asked the other day about how to get hold of the new version of their program - Version 5.0. I was referred to their partner in Italy who suggested I'd sign a maintenance contract with them for about US$ 150 *a year* to get the update. Sounded a bit fishy, so I'm going to send a copy of their e-mail to Datafellows. The price may be right for a network, but for a single user it's ridiculous. Take care and don't open PRETTYPARK.EXE <vbg>. Börje http://www.micanet.it/bikappa >>
Guest guest
Gayle, Did you run a scan? Is Norton up to date? If so then delete any sign of pretty park, even in your " old Mail " files and windows explorer. If you got the virus, Norton will tell you what to do. Good luck...
