I try not to eat foods with a lot of sugar, but otherwise I dont follow my docs advice about diet. I am about 100 lbs overweight! But I hate dieting and refuse to do it. I would rather die sooner and happy than later and hungry. A friend of ours just had a very bad liver infection they put him on a diet of 50fat grams a day, he is starving and is a tooth pic. I want a large pizza so bad. I like your way of thinking. After all the testing was done and visiting the pulmonary dept for PFT's etc turned out to be Sarcoidosis (another Auto Immune Disorder). It took about 4 months to finally confirm the diagnosis, lots of tests along the way, hang in there.... My husbands MD gave hima pamphlet from there with stats on Sarcoid. Usual treatment is steroids. They put him on prednisone and now on oral inhalers. How odd that I had never heard of this disease before. How odd that there are so many Auto Imminue Disorders floating around out there. Makes you wonder about our environement. Guest guest Posted December 8, 2000 Report Share Posted December 8, 2000 Shireen, Sarcoidosis sometimes is not treated and generally goes away. Some people are put on steroids. My husband just went through two weeks of prednisone (he had to beg for it) and now on some kind of oral steroid inhaler. Before his diagnosis, he thought he was having a heart attack, chest pain, difficulty breathing, and you could hear crackling in his lungs. The xray tech couldn't even get him to get enough air in his lungs to take a proper xray while in the ER and they had to call him back for a second film. They saw swollen nodes in the xray, requested a cat scan and found a ton of swollen nodes in his lungs and around his heart. The did a biopsy vs a bronchoscopy and when they went in, they were so alarmed with all the nodes that just came to surface their first reaction was that it was lymphoma. The pathologist biopsied and froze the node and confirmed it wasn't. Just a real bad case of Sarcoidosis. My Gastro saw me in the hallway during the surgery and came to see me. He was suprised to hear that my husband had sarcoidosis as its usually seen in Black men. My husband is norweigan/scandinavian. History of this disease is also present in northen europeans so perhaps this is how he got it. There is also speculation that this disease is somehow related to the environment. My husband works with paper products and recently a report came out about the " triplicate forms " (carbonless paper) and how they can be toxic, especially to those who use them often. My niece was diagnosed over 7 years ago and she is doing great. She is married, bought a house and my sister in law is carrying her baby (invitro) and she is due in June. My niece is on disability and also due to our high altitude is on 2 liters of oxygen. She was in the trials for the new meds that were out and she has responded great. Please don't be scared. I do think this is typical Dutch. He is a bishop comming from Spain and is called Sinterklaas. He arrives here in Holland in the third week of November by boat with his helpers called " zwarte Piet = black Piet' and with his white horse 'Schimmel'. All children give him a big welcome in the harbor. He actually lookes like 'the pope', but is all dressed up in red. His helpers are black man and woman all dressed up in colourfull clothing and whenever they come across children they give them ginger-nuts and other candy. Untill the 5th of December (that is his birthday) children are allowed to place a shoe by the fireplace/ or nowadays central heating. They put notes in their shoe for Sinterklaas, a carrot for the horse, sing special Sinterklaas songs and then they go to bed. Over night Sinterklaas and his helpers go on the roof and put present down the chimney so the next morning when the children wake up they will find a present in their shoe. This is so funny. And on December 5th in the evening children are waiting for loud knocking on the frontdoor, and when the door is opened there usually is a big bag full of presents. These couple of weeks are really exciting for children, candy and presents everywhere! I had the staghorn type that doesn't move. Look up Kidney stones and E..S.W.L. , that's the Lithotripsy method of breaking up stones. We don't believe that it will be anything more than that and nobody has indicated that we should worry, even knowing my health history and our sensitivity to anything autoimmune. His family seems to develop more severe allergies as they get older, so we just deal with them. Don't worry unless someone gives you an informed reason to.
