Who ever said coffee is a vice?

J

Hi Group--

I will just jump right back in, I have been gone for about 45 days and

actually may have to leave again soon. Here's some info on coffee: it can

cause exhausted adrenal glands, blood sugar swings, acid imbalance and

mineral depletion. This is due to the tannins in the coffee and also black

tea, caffeine is not really a big problem.

Hey --

Thanks for the welcome back! So far so good on my liver function tests, but

the real test will be next Tuesday when I go see my gastro doc. I have so

much to tell the group I hesitate to begin because I really do not know how

active I can be right now.

Some of you may remember I left town to be with my father for lung cancer

surgery and that went okay, but the cancer is already back or should I say

there was a short period of time they could not detect it and now it seems my

father is terminal and I am not sure when I will have to go back to Texas.

It may even be this weekend and therefore I would not get to my gastro doc

for my next tests.

Some of you may also remember that the American Liver Foundation was looking

for people treating their liver disease with alternative medicine. For now

to make a very long story short I went to Bethesda, land to speak at the

National Institute of Health's conference for Complimentary and Alternative

Medicine in Chronic Liver Disease. I still have not had time to begin to

digest the overwhelming amount of information I was exposed to during this 3

day conference. In time I hope to disseminate as much information as I can

to this group. One thing of great importance, I think, is I have the

directory of all the attendees to the conference and can share names and

telephone numbers of traditional and alternative doctors for some of you that

may still be looking. There was only about 200 doctors there and a lot of

those were from other countries, so there was not complete representation

from the US. In fact, there was not one doctor there from Georgia, my home

state.

Anyway it was real cool thing to do and I got to meet some really smart

people, like research doctors that never meet patients, so it was cool for

them too. I guess the best thing out of this for me is that the NIH is now

going to test my blood and see if they can come up with a more definitive

diagnosis, since this has been one of my biggest complaints about traditional

medicine, and I know there are several in this group that share this concern,

because your AIH also does not meet all the markers of the disease.

I could go on forever and ever, so if some of you have specific questions,

that may be an easier way for me to handle this. By the way my key point in

my talk, was first for myself so that I can be sure I am healthy and then

feel confident in getting pregnant and being a healthy mom, and second key

point was for all the people who are told they need prednisone and immuran to

live, I want to make it possible for them to have safer treatment options.

Also I want to eliminate the trial and error diagnosis of AIH.

Fire away with your questions!

My thoughts and prayers are with you and your father. It is much easier to

deal without own diseases sometimes than it is someone we love.

I look forward to hearing about what you learned at the alternative meeting

conference. This is exciting----thank you, Joan

What a neat thing you did! When is the next confererence and where will it

be held? I'm new to this arena and have learned an awful lot about AIH in

just 3 short months. I see how this disease is so dibillitating both before

the diagnosis when everyone thinks you're crazy because you don't know what's

wrong and then once the diagnosis, the wait and uncertainty stresses even the

closest of partners and families.

It's only through education and tireless work by people who are concerned

that this awful disease will be recognized as the beast it is. I know it

will not happen overnight, but thanks to people like you the ball stays in

the right courts. I appreciate the time and effort you made!

Wow, that conference must have been very exciting for you! I'm glad you got

to go. At this point my only question is do you have anyone on that list

from florida? Thanks a bunch...

You and your father are in our prayers during this most difficult time. God be

with you and your family.
