Welcome a! How are you feeling? What lead you to your diagnosis?

There sure is lots to learn about Hypothyroidism - & you've come to a good

place to learn. One of the best ways to learn is to search the archives (past

messages) as Tina here would say, read, read, read - all you can! It takes a

while to absorb all the information - but don't get discouraged, you'll get it!

Some quick pointers with this disease are - stay away from soy products &

fluoride. Check to see if your water has fluoride added. A low carb diet seems

to help - the less processed foods you eat - the better. Get copies of all of

your blood work and keep records of how you are feeling and what you are taking.

If you can get your doctor to test your adrenal function that can be key to

feeling better. The literature with thyroid meds - says dr.'s should test

adrenals before prescribing thyroid -- don't know why the majority of doctors

ignore this! Many hypothyroid patients have adrenal insufficiencies. To

start with - here's a website that a person named Gail who struggled with

hypothyroid for many years put together - very informative!

http://personal.lig.bellsouth.net/w/u/wurmstei/

Keep in touch & feel free to ask questions!

hi a, i've heard some folks say the Zone diet is good for them. I don't

believe one diet is necessarily the right diet for everyone. I think everyone

has to find a diet they can live with and one which is good addresses whatever

health problems they have.

I advise everyone to work with a dietician or nutritionist because they have

helped me when no one else could and when no diet i tried worked. most of them

really know their stuff and can offer a lot of support as well.

in my opinion, finding the right thyroid medicine for your body, as well as the

right dosage of that medicine(s), is so important when it comes to being able to

lose weight.

Of course, diet and exercise is important as well, but if your metabolism is too

slow, the right diet and exercise may not help you lose weight. That has been my

experience.

All the symptoms you mentioned, I had. I don't have them anymore. Some of these

symptoms didn't clear up until I changed my thyroid meds. When I was taking

synthetics (Levoxyl & Cytomel), I had improvements in my symptoms; however, when

I switched to Armour, the natural dessicated hormone, I felt SO much better and

saw many of my symptoms completely clear up.

My monthly cycle is back to being regular and normal now. The pain used be so

bad that I took prescription meds for years for it. Some months, I have no pain

at all now. This month I did have some cramping...but just minimal.

I used to shower with ALL hot water. Now I shower with warm water. My energy

level is good.

I lost the excess weight I was carrying around (30 pounds) after being on

Levoxyl for 4 months. I have maintained that weight loss; however, I am losing

inches all the time and dropping sizes of my clothes.

I had virtually no libido. Now, my sex drive is back to normal.

I had severe pain during intercourse. Since I started on Armour, that has

cleared up as well.

The dry skin has taken a long time to clear up, but in the past week my hands

are so soft the way they used to be.

my mood is back to normal.

there's so much more I could tell you about symptoms I had that have improved...

There is hope!!! Hugs, Sheila

Hi a!

Sounds like we are alike as far as symptoms go! Depression can be part of

hypothyroidism as well. Glad you were tested and can get on the road to feeling

better! I know I was relieved to get the diagnosis -- knew there was something

wrong, but didn't know what!

The Zone diet is very good for Hypothyroidism. I've been eating that way for

over 5 years and I think that's why I didn't gain too much with the hypo. Do

you have the energy to exercise? That could help. With the Zone, just be

careful with the soy products.

take care -- hope you feel better!

Hi a!

Hope you gain more energy - dumping the soy will probably help!

Would be more than happy to be your hypothyroid friend - most of the people on

this list would probably say the same thing.....feel free to share what you are

going through, vent, complain, hopefully you exclaim you feel great & real soon!

(can you tell I tend to be optimistic, hehe!) - we are all learning every

single day! This disease is not as simple as it is cracked up to be so sharing

and learning is key!

take care & healing hugs to you,

Hi a.

I have Hashimoto's Thyroiditis and am HypoT. I had no energy to do anything

for the past 3 yrs.but last month I'd had enough. My doctor put me on

Prenatal vitamins.because I was anemic. It helped some..but I still didn't

feel like exercising. Then I ordered the TriVita Sublingual B-12 (plus I

still took my Prenatals) and that helped to the point that I joined Curves

For Women and now started working out 5 days a week. It started to take a

toll on me though.so I got on this website to see if I could find out why I

was so drained. Everyone on here kept referring to taking " adrenals " so I

called my Homepathic doc and ordered some

Adrenal/Spleen drops, which I take 3 times a day..along with the Trivita and

Prenate and I noticed a BIG difference in my stamina. Even after working

out I still manage to have enough energy now to enjoy my life, keep my house

clean and babysit my 2 month old and 3 yr old grandsons! At the same time!!

From what I gather..we just have to try until we find what's right for us,

individually. What works for me.may not work for you. But I just thought I

'd throw that option out there for you.

Good luck!!
