Guest guest
I just got permission from my mom to ask ya'all for some advice on her behalf. she went through what I think might be an episode that sounds like thyroid storm or something leading up to thyroid storm. sorry if this post is confusing. i'm pretty shaken up. I can't remember if I posted this info or not, but I told someone...can't remember who. Anyway I've been having this feeling for awhile that I need to get back home. Kemal and I made our vacation plans to go see my folks this June. I just haven't been able to shake the feeling that something bad is going to happen...and that it's related to my parents. my mom has been up & down lately, and, of course, this is not unusual when you're dealing with thyroid problems like my mom is. anyway, she's been weak, low energy, lots of other hypoT symptoms. her doc just increased her Synthroid but she only took one or two of those pills because after she started she felt some changes with her heart...like her heart was racing a bit. she used to be hyperthyroid and had a partial thyroidectomy back when I was between 12-15 years old. she was also diagnosed with adrenal exhaustion. anyway, since her partial TT, she's never been treated for hypoT. Her doc wouldn't treat her with a TSH of 3.5 and every hypoT symptom in the book. she switched doctors and he started treating her I believe in Dec... anyway, last night when I was reading her e-mails she was feeling much better. Then, I got a call from her about 1 p.m. She said about 12:45 a.m. she woke my dad up to call 911. she was experiencing racing heart, high blood pressure, high pulse rate, and shortness of breath. Her BP at 1:45 was 206/ 94 with a pulse of 137. Her BP from then until 7 a.m. were: 134/45, 127/75, 116/60, 137/73, 170/80, 168/87, and 120/? She said she's had 7 bowel movements since 12:45 a.m. until the time she called me 1 p.m. Mom has had chronic constipation for years. the synthroid has helped some, but she doesn't have more than 1 BM a day. her doc is on a cruise. she saw another doc. she told my mom that she might have another attack like this, and if she does, she is supposed to take a Micardis pill (to lower BP) and then call the office. I'm concerned because I think mom should be monitored in the hospital. i told mom i would feel better if she went to the ER immediately if this happens again...after she takes that pill. ya'all think this is thyroid storm? I don't know if she had a fever...forgot to ask. anyway, i'm worried sick. also, my dad has heart problems...some kind of genetic thing...problem with his valve (not mitrovalve prolapse). he takes meds for it. anyway, mom said that dad's BP went way up last night when she was going through all this. I asked dad if his BP was back to normal and he said he didn't know. that doc my mom saw believes all this is related to her thyroid and/or thyroid meds. she wants her to see an endo ASAP. she said if she sent her to a cardiolgoist, they would just tell her to go see an endo. mom said her BP and pulse, which always run low like mine, were back in the normal range by the time she finally saw a doctor at 7 a.m. i'm not a doc, and this is my mom we're talking about, so obviously I can't really be objective. do ya'all think my mom should be in a hospital being monitored? I do, but maybe it's because she's my mom and I'm scared out of my mind. you all may recall she was diagnosed with both cervical & ovarian cancer 2 years ago and had surgery. she's been cancer free since. I just can't shake this really bad intuitive thing going on inside me that's telling me to go see my mom. kemal would HAVE to go with me. I would never drive that far by myself. we might be able to get off for 3 days at work. or maybe we could wait and go next Tues, Wed., Thurs (we're normally off Wed/Thurs). maybe by then mom's doc would be back and I could talk to him to. The docs she sees go to her church. maybe i should wait and see if she gets in with an endo next week and go with her to make sure she gets the right tests done and that he doesn't treat her the way many thyroid patients are treated. i'm really confused and scared...maybe I'm worrying too much? I really want your feedback. Thanks in advance for being here for me and for all your support. love, sheila P.S. I just talked to mom again...her doc is trying to get her in with an endo in Lexington, Ky...about 2 hours from where they live...about 1 hour from me. Mom thinks they might be able to see her tomorrow, but her doc issn't sure. i'll keep you posted.

Guest guest
Sheila. You are not over reacting about worriying about your omom, anyone would do the same thing.. If that was my mom i would be worried too.. and yes I would go up to be with her right now if I was in this situation just because you are really not sure what is going on and why she really had it- know what i mean.. how old is your mom?? anything dealing with the heart is a serious thing.. hopefully she gets tooken to lexingtion and you can go to see her there-- i really hope things go good for your mom and dad-- i am sure your work would allow you to take 5 days off to go see your mother who is sick-- and if not then your work has issues-- jimmy had to take off from his job at last minute when his dad had a heartattack, his work didnt like it to well but my gosh that is your father and they need to understand that.. know what i mean.. jimmy told them well i am sorry but my dad needs me right now and he did-- jimmy needed to spend as much time with him because only god knew what the outcome was going to be- know what i mean.. i am not sure on the thyroid storn thing you asked about. i dont even know what that is- but honey i will forsure pray foryou parents and ihope your momma gets better- and yes i do think she should be monitored because her heart rate went up and pressure did to and they dont know why- her heart rate went up fast- dang-- well i gotta run. best of luck honey - you know ifyou need to talk to me email me sweetie-i am here for ya--keisha Kemal And Sheila Kalajdzic <kemalandsheila@...> wrote:I just got permission from my mom to ask ya'all for some advice on her behalf. she went through what I think might be an episode that sounds like thyroid storm or something leading up to thyroid storm. sorry if this post is confusing. i'm pretty shaken up. Guest guest
> HI. I just thought I would tell you what my Dr. described to me at my last visit. (In Dec) A friend of hers went into a thyroid storm when she was in labor with her child. This was last summer I think. And what she was saying about that was that her storm was that she went psycotic. They had to sedate her and it took like 3-4 days befor she was well enough to even be trusted with her new baby. I guess that I just took from that that a thyroid storm is more like massive brain fog with some psycotic thrown in to boot. But I guess it may depend on the person. Keep us updated and let us know what the Dr.s think is going on. Good luck...
