Hi susan, here's some info about osteopathic docs and why they might be more

helpful than allopathic docs. once you get to this site, click on the link that

will tell you more about ostepathic medicine/docs to learn more. They look more

at how disease affects the whole body.

http://www.mercola.com/2003/aug/13/osteopathy.htm

this doc looks like he might be a good doctor, but I understand your concerns

since he's promoting supplements and a book. is he listed as a top doc by

chance?

if i were having hard time getting Armour, I might be inclined to see this guy

just long enough to get a script for Armour, and pay out of pocket. Then I could

call some other docs my insurance would pay for and talk to their medical

assistants.

I'd tell them that I'm currently taking Armour and looking to change doctors

because my insurance plan doesn't cover this doctor. You can ask the medical

assistant if any of their doctors in the practice prescribe Armour so you can

continue your treatment.

If you are having a hard time finding a doc to RX Armour, this might work. If a

patient is established on a certain medicine that is working for them, then they

might be more inclined to continue that medication.

If the patient was NOT already established on the medicine, they would probably

just RX Synthroid.

I ran into an endo like that...he doesn't RX Cytomel; however, when I went to

him, already taking it, he would have continued me on it because I was doing

well on it. He said it was such a low dosage it wouldn't hurt me. But he did

tell me it's not a drug he would normally prescribe.

Anyway, it's maybe not the optimal way to try to get Armour, but if you can't

find anyone to RX it, it just might work.

Good luck!!! {{Hugs}} sheila

Thanks Gracia - How much Isocort would you advise I take?

Yup, you are right the RA meds I'm on have warnings for major side effects --

methotrexate is a chemo drug in high doses, and is also used in etopic pregnancy

in a large dose to expel the fetus - can cause liver damage. I take a very

small dose now -- used to take 10 every Monday - now 5 every other Monday.

Enbrel is a new drug -- with serious warnings with regard to infection -- if you

have an infection and take Enbrel it could kill you. Found out my husbands

prescription plan that begins 5/1 has maximum limit of $5,000 per year, Ebrel

costs $10,000 a year. We're fine for 2004 --I have some in stock.

I have blood work to monitor liver function etc. All is fine. Tried getting my

Rheumatologist to work with me on thyroid -- says she can't help me with regard

to the Endocrine system. I asked the pharmacist about any doctors in the area

that prescribe Armour and she gave me this guy's

name:http://www.drjanson.com/practice.htm Wonder if he's okay to see? He's

not on my insurance or my husbands..... & It does not mention on his site that

he treats thyroid -- does mention Arthritis. I'd most likely have to pay out of

pocket & I don't want to get stuck with a lot of expenses -- we'll have 2 in

college next year! I'm just a bit leery of his site -- it promotes his book a

lot and a vitamin company. UGH! But in the long run -- Armour, if it can help

me, would be a heck of a lot cheaper than Enbrel! Just thinking out loud here

-- I really think Armour is the way to go -- just got to find the right road to

get me there....I'm so tempted to just switch without my Endo's knowledge

-- but I can't with all the other stuff I take for RA -- I really need someone

to work with me. ARRRGH! How about an osteopath -- think that kind of Dr.

could help?

Take care Gracia --

Hope it's warm in Maine today!!!! Getting warmer in NH!

Re: Tina - Help needed with lab results

I think you should get isocort but probably need cortef. Throw the levoxyl

out and get Armour! Then the RA will be much improved. Don't the RA meds

have significant side effects?

Yup, I agree with your philosophy Sheila - if I see this guy -- pay the out of

pocket -- then in the long run I'll be way ahead of the game especially if I do

well on the Armour & can dump the Enbrel!!!! If I don't get better insurance

coverage for 2005, Enbrel could cost us over $5,000!!! YIKES - we really can't

afford that! Joe is fine with it -- but I don't want to plunk down that kind of

$, especially if something natural with no dangerous side effects can do the

trick.

I'll call Monday & see what his fees are and all that! I'll keep you posted!

There is one osteopathic Dr. in my current health insurance (which runs out next

Friday)....he's in Concord, NH (about 40 mins away). I'll try his office Monday

as well. Would be awesome if he could squeeze me in next week! I had seen an

osteopath about 8 or 9 years ago for my back -- he helped a lot with

manipulation.

Thanks Sheila!

Better get going - the Red Sox - Yankee game is on at 1:00 - haven't even

showered yet!!!

GO SOX!!!!

hiya ! Maybe when that osteopathic doc's office learns that your insurance

is running out, they might be able to squeeze you in...all depends I guess on

his schedule. I know at our office, it's super hard to squeeze in a new patient

because new patients new an hour time slot. We do have some docs though who will

you just might be able to dump the Enbrel once you get some Armour in your

Hi Sheila--

Yeah, me the being the eternal optimist was thinking maybe they'd be able to

squeeze me in -- we'll see -- like you said it's worth a shot! I was thinking

it might be work it to go on COBRA for my insurance -(me only) for a couple of

months -- still thinking!

YES, really enjoyed the Sox game - they swept the Yankees (our big rival) in

NY! (sorry any Yankee fans).....can't wait for the game Wednesday night, whole

fam damily is looking forward to going to Fenway!

I did my kick boxing workout yesterday -- felt good! Got to keep it up! Took

my temperature right after and it was lower -- maybe cause my body was expelling

heat from working out????

Got to get going -- 's on school vacation this week and we're going

shopping for her senior semi formal dress --AND she was asked to the Junior Prom

Friday. Funny, her old boyfriend's little brother asked her to go to his prom

-- they've always been good friends.

Got a busy week -- so I might not be online much -- will catch up later -- hope

all get well or stay well!

Have a good day -- raining in NH today!

xxoo
