Guest guest Posted May 6, 2004 Report Share Posted May 6, 2004 Debbi, I had something similar happen to me years ago, when my PCP joined an HMO, but he at least made a token effort to refer me to colleagues. Your legal options are limited and probably not worth the effort and expense, unless (a) those allergy shots were REALLY expensive or ( the abandonment directly causes you some major harm, such as hospitalization, surgery, or financial loss. However, you can report the physician to the appropriate governing medical board. That might turn up the heat a little. Since this is considered such seriously unprofessional behavior, you might be dealing with a sudden illness or other situation that incapacitates the doctor. You might want to ask around and see if anyone knows why this happened. It might help you decide whether you want to cut him some slack or try even harder to find the nearest lawyer. Chuck B.
