Guest guest
The package insert says it is the same. That's one of my concerns. I do not have any new hair growth on the head and underarms is also much thinner. They are supposed to be the same active ingredient, levoxyl is just much cheaper. My pharmacist can substitute but does not stock my strength so would have to order. Joan > I know a side effect of synthroid is mild hair loss. do you think it's the > same with levoxyl? Guest guest
So will iodine get your thyroid working and then you can stop taking the iodine or will you have to take the iodine for life like you do the synthoid? If they are both for life I don’t see the difference your taking help for your thyroid it just is a matter of what form. Guest guest
Theresa, Iodine is the same idea as a vitamin- you need it ongoing forever, and for many body processes, just google it to see why you need it. It has been replaced in a lot of our foods by not healthy alternatives so most of us are deficient. It is not a medicine, but a supplement that the body needs enough of... Synthroid is a synthetic thyroid medication that only gives T-4, if I understand correctly, but our body has to convert T-4 to T-3 in order to use it (the numbers correlate to the iodine bonded into the molecule, so yes iodine is needed by the body to produce the thyroid hormones). Many have difficulty processing T-4 to T-3 which causes more problems, and also I am seeing that Selenium is used in part of that process so it is a companion supplement to Iodine. Also, doctors test TSH to convince us that the the T-4 is working when in fact we don't feel better and our actual numbers of t-4 and t-3 can still be way off. SO, some people can end up using only iodine and selenium and supplements to boost their thyroid so that their body can produce all it needs on its own. But others can't seem to get there. Either way, you need Iodine. Finally, low iron available to the body, not just ferritin level, makes a huge difference in being able to function well in adrenal glands and it is correlated to thyroid as well. So checking your iron levels is important. Guest guest
Well, iodine is a natural substance which your whole body needs (like food), so it addresses more problems than just your thyroid. Synthroid is an artificial substance which many people report leaves them feeling like crap & doesn't really resolve the thyroid problem. Iodine can be had without a prescription, & you can adjust the dose to suit you; Synthroid, you have to deal with doctors.AnneOn Mar 16, 2011, at 8:56 AM, Theresa wrote: So will iodine get your thyroid working and then you can stop taking the iodine or will you have to take the iodine for life like you do the synthoid? Guest guest
Theresa,Iodine is necessary for life for the health of your body, like drinking water is necessary for the health of your body. Nourishing your body is different than taking a medication that makes your body seem it is working right when it really isn’t.
