Guest guest
we just never know what we can find--I had no idea either and I just can't understand it!!! So much of this is still confusing to me no matter how hard I try and figure it all out. tina > Hi Tina, When I read what you posted, I just about fell out of my chair! I had no idea these drugs contained mercury and chlorine. I have read a lot of things about these drugs indicating they're dangerous, but I've never read this before. Thanks for passing this along! Here are the listed ingredients of the first drug on the list, Prozac: " Fluoxetine hydrochloride is an antidepressant for oral administration; it is chemically unrelated to tricyclic, tetracyclic, or other available antidepressant agents. It is designated (±)-N-methyl-3-phenyl-3-[(a,a,a-trifluoro-p-tolyl)-oxy]propylamine hydrochloride and has the empirical formula of C17H18F3NO•HCl. Its molecular weight is 345.79. Fluoxetine hydrochloride is a white to off-white crystalline solid with a solubility of 14 mg/ml in water. Each Prozac Pulvule contains fluoxetine hydrochloride equivalent to 10 mg (32.3 mcmol), 20 mg (64.7 mcmol), or 40 mg (129.3 mmol) of fluoxetine. The Pulvules also contain starch, gelatin, silicone, titanium dioxide, iron dioxide, and other inactive ingredients. The 10 mg and 20 mg Pulvules also contain FD & C blue no. 1, and the 40 mg Pulvule also contains FD & C blue no. 1 and FD & C yellow no. 6. Each Prozac tablet contains fluoxetine HCl equivalent to 10 mg (32.3 mmol) of fluoxetine. The tablets also contain microcrystalline cellulose, magnesium stearate, crospovidone, hydroxypropyl methylcellulose, titanium dioxide, polyethylene glycol, and yellow iron oxide. In addition to the above ingredients, the 10 mg tablet contains FD & C blue no. 1 aluminum lake, and polysorbate 80. " Note: no mercury listed at all, let alone as the " main " ingredient. The chlorine is in the form of the chloride ion, 50% of the atoms in common table salt. Combined with the hydrogen cation, you have HCl, which is the main constituent of your own stomach acid. However, in stomach acid you are dealing with 100's if not 1,000's of grams, while the drug is in mg quantities. Here is similar data on Zoloft: Sertraline HCl is a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI) for oral administration. It is chemically unrelated to other SSRIs, tricyclic, tetracyclic, or other available antidepressant agents. It has a molecular weight of 342.7. Sertraline hydrochloride has the following chemical name: (1S-cis)-4-(3,4-dichlorophenyl)-1,2,3,4-tetrahydro-N-methyl-1-nanphthalenamine hydrochloride. The empirical formula is C17H17NCl2·HCl. Sertraline hydrochloride is a white crystalline powder that is slightly soluble in water and isopropyl alcohol, and sparingly soluble in ethanol. Zoloft is supplied for oral administration as scored tablets containing sertraline hydrochloride equivalent to 25, 50 and 100 mg and the following inactive ingredients: dibasic calcium phosphate dihydrate, Dy & C Yellow #10 aluminum lake (in 25 mg tablet), FD & C Blue #1 aluminum lake (in 25 mg tablet), FD & C Red #40 aluminum lake (in 25 mg tablet), FD & C Blue #2 aluminum lake (in 50 mg tablet), hydroxypropyl cellulose, hydroxypropyl methylcellulose, magnesium stearate, microcrystalline cellulose, polyethylene glycol, polysorbate 80, sodium starch glycolate, synthetic yellow iron oxide (in 100 mg tablet), and titanium dioxide. Again, no mercury, and the chlorine is in the attached chloride ion. I am afraid I have serious reservations about the information in this article. Guest guest
thanks a lot for the info, Chuck! I appreciate it a lot. I've been doing some reading on SSRIs and the things I've learned have unsettled me. I hadn't gotten as far as actually looking for the ingredients, so thanks so much for taking the time to do that! I'm glad to learn they don't contain those ingredients, particularly since I've tried them both in the past very briefly. take care, sheila Chuck Blatchley <cblatchl@...> wrote: Sheila, You wrote: > Hi Tina, When I read what you posted, I just about fell out of my chair! > I had no idea these drugs contained mercury and chlorine. Guest guest
Chuck it would be great if you wrote to this lady and asked her because I think everyone would like to know her reasons for saying this and proof. As for the info I posted it the way it is--I do not edit someones work--but I also stated that not all is believed, you have to do your own homework and to take out of it what pertains to you and still continue to read, read, read---every site has info that can be disputed. I got what I needed from this site and that was info on weight gain and excess cortisol (also increased appetite). This seems to be a very large problem and it makes a lot of sense since most of our posters are only being treated for thyroid and they can't lose the added weight. We have been constantly asking posters to get their adrenals tested and this ties into the possiblity of weight problems having untreated adrenals that are producing excess cortisol to not only keep up with the added thyroid hormone but also because they have adrenal problems to begin with. this tie in would make sense the problem with increase appetite and weight gain for some that can't seem to lose even with increase thyroid medication. tina > > > Hi Tina, When I read what you posted, I just about fell out of my chair! > > > I had no idea these drugs contained mercury and chlorine.
