She says with having to put up with this disease she will try anything to give me quality of life. If daily pain relief is what it takes to get that then so be it. I would like to do a survey and see just how many of us suffer from URQ pain, I may just show her the results and let her know that I am not the only one with this pain. Guest guest Posted September 12, 1999 Report Share Posted September 12, 1999 Dear SueB: I suffer from both URQ and ULQ pain. The ULQ is much worse and is with me all the time at a dull roar. It gets much worse when I try to wean down my dosage of prednisone. Like so many of the others, I have been told that it's related to my spleen. When I've had the URQ pain, I've told my doctor and he's parroted the same thing yours has " the liver doesn't cause pain. " He has acknowledged that the tissue around the liver can, though. For those who have been talking about the left lobe of the liver, it reaches just to the center of the chest. It is very unlikely that it causes the ULQ pain. When my liver was extremely enlarged at the start of my illness, I felt the swelling in the left lobe as sort of a pressure just about where the ribs come together. It made it difficult to breathe. I also have the pain .. sometimes spreading from my right side to the center of my chest. Mostly tho just above or right on the right side of my rib cage. My doctor also said the liver cannot cause pain .. but the surrounding tissues will. I been recently experiencing LUQ pain as well. The pain is dull and can often reach the middle of my back. I was having continuous LUQ pain but on way to doc, it began to ease and now is gone! Meanwhile he ordered an endoscopy. Now I dont know what to do. I asked him if pain could be from left lobe of liver, but he said usually pain from liver area is RUQ. I cant understand why this disturbing pain just went away after several days of continuous pain only relieved by tylenol #3. Bearable though now with the meds. I do, however, get very frustrated when the docs tell me that they cannot understand how I have this pain. It is nice to know that I am not alone in this, that there are a few of you with it. Terrible to think that someone else's pain makes me more comfortable with mine. It is me that is concerned about looking foolish when they find nothing wrong. So, if it is liver pain, I can expect it to come back? It is different pain than I have ever felt before. Last month I called 911 because I had such severe pain, URQ and ULQ, and it radiated to my back, shoulders, even a little in my arms and jaw. I thought I was having a heart attack! It also hurt very badly to breath. At the hospital they checked my heart and lungs and could find nothing wrong, so called it muscle strain! So they sent me home and told me to take tylenol... I later found out it had been liver pain. The few days I felt like I had been kicked by a horse, but it eventually went away. Now I have a chronic mild liver pain only. Go figure! I wonder if making stones in the bile ducts or gallbladder are or could be part of that? I had my gallbladder out and a month later they had to open me up again to remove another stone. And I believe my current problem is biliary and have wondered if I am still passing stones when the pain is at its most severe.. Any ideas from you guys?? I would get really severe pain like in my upper abdomen through to back and in my jaw. If I was lying down I have to get up and try to walk it off.
