The rash started when I was in San Diego. It is getting worse. I itch alot

but I tired to get into my doctor but couldn't. He has a new nurse and she

would not budge on getting me to see him so I will wait until Monday. She

suggested that I see this new doctor (old) but I said only Dr Burke knows my

case and I am not going to spend the afternoon explaining my illness to some

old doctor that would say it is in my head.

I will let you know Monday. I only use Dove and sometimes some of the baths

soaps with the scrubber but in our family none of us can use many soaps etc

because My daughter and my husband have baby butt skin. Since AIH I put alot

of cream all over my body. I have some cream - Vanicream that they use in

the Mayo clinic on all floors in the doctors offices. I bought some and I

couldn't believe the solf elbows I got when I used it. My elbows are so

rough but not any more.

Sue,

What a dirty trick, for you to have to deal with a rash on your trip to San

Diego. I hope it wasn't so much problem it interfered with our enjoyment

of the occasion. I had a siege of itching today and took a Benadryl right

away before it got out of control. It looked like it would develop into

full scale hives and I wasn't ready to go through that again. Have you

tried Benadryl for itching? It apparently is harmless since my doctor has

even suggested I take it to help me sleep.

Next time you run into a problem getting past your doctor's nurse and she

won't get you in right away, tell her that you want the doctor to call you

ASAP because you consider it to be an emergency situtation (but not life

threatening.) She HAS to pass on the message, at least, and then let the

doctor override the nurse's decision not to give you an appointment. If

she refuses to pass on the message, she's going into some dangerous

territory and creating some serious liability for her employer (the doctor.)

Our egos need to be massaged a little. Those soaps and creams can go a

long ways towards making us feel more " human " . I used to scrub my face

with any old hand soap and used Zest for showers, figuring creams and

lotions afterwards would take care of dry skin. But when my skin started

becoming hypersensitive I discovered a whole new world of special bath

gels, etc. Do you have to buy Vanicream in a pharmacy? I'd love to try

it. It sounds like it's just what I could use right now. Lately, my skin

is dry within 8 hours after I've showered.

If I could break myself from playing with my computer, I'd be online more

often. I'm always changing something and creating new problems that take

me hours to clean up. This week has been hectic anyhow and the rest of the

summer will be busy. Apparently everyone in our famillies have decided to

come see us. Fortunately, not all at the same time, though some of them

are dangerously close to overlapping each other. The nice thing about

living in Las Vegas is that guests don't need to be entertained. They can

always find plenty to do on their own. We just give them a key since we're

not interested in sightseeing anymore, and tell them to be sure to lock the

door when they get in.

Tomorrow I'm going to make apricot jam. The strawberry jam turned out well

although the berries I bought weren't great. Fortunately, jam is forgiving.

Take care,

I got in today with my doctor as I wrote to . I can't do anything until

I call the nurse that is head of the study group for the Budesonide. So I

will call tomorrow.

Did you say you don't work no more. Did you get long term disability

insurance?

I know you mention that you don't understand how some of the group work full

time. Well, I am not full time and as of today I will only be 4 hours a day.

Hoping for the Long Term Disability Insurance to kick in. Should know by

the end of the week. Then of course I will be on vacation next week. We are

going to Milwaukee to see the Brewers play because we have never been there

and they are buiding them a new home so we want to see them play before they

moved to the new stadium.

As fo Vanicream, I found it at Target but I bought it at Rochester in a

pharmacy in the shopping area that was connected to the clinic. I paid

$13.00 for 16 oz and it was with a pump. Otherwise it is about $10.00. The

people at Mayo say that they will put in on before they are completely dried

and it really helps. I know that my elbows feel good The rest of my body I

have other lotions for. Need alot with this body.

Oh, by the way when I was showing the doctor the rash that was also on my

chest, I said it is here also. I thought I was growing some new zoobies.

Boy did he laugh when I told him what I meant.

Well off to finish the rest of the mail.

Take Care!!

Sue,

Hi. I'm getting slower and slower about keeping up with e-mail. It's just

a phase!

I'll be interested to hear how things go for you on Budesonide. Since I'm

withdrawing from Prednisone now, if and when I have to start taking it

again, I'll ask my doctor about it. So far their advice has been good, so

I'll trust their judgement. You know the old saying, " if it's not broken,

don't fix it " ? If Pred is working for me, no point in changing, but if it

stops being effective It's good to know there's an alternative.

No, I'm not working. I haven't worked for more than a year. I really do

miss it for a number of reasons. I like having the structure in my life

and I enjoy being around people. I don't have to tell you, I also enjoy

the money. Not so motivated to work here in LV as I was before we moved

here, though, since pay for idential work I did in San Francisco and

Seattle is considerably lower here. It almost doesn't seem worth the

effort. I'm not sure I could handle a job right now. Maybe part time, but

not full time. When I feel good, I feel great, but it's too unpredictable

and how do you explain to an employer that you simply have to lie down

occasionally, or that you have too many aches and pains to walk around? I

didn't apply for disability because it seemed like too much hassle. I

probably should have. I've talked to my husband about us doing some kind

of work at home. He's an engineer and I have some understanding of

engineering terminology, so there are a number of things we could do

together if we ever get organized.

Hope you get this before you leave for vacation and do have a great time.

You're a baseball fan, huh? My Dad was a high school coach and when I was

a little girl he took me to games but my husband is strictly a tennis and

golf fan so I've lost touch. Ever heard of a left handed pitcher named Ken

Dahley? He was with the Blue Jays until he went out on disability. He's

married to one of my first cousins and they live in St. Louis. He's

pitched in the World Series but I don't remember which team he was with at

the time. St. Louis? It was in 1988 or 1987, I think.

I'm going to try to find Vanicream. It sounds like something I could use

and that's not a bad price for 16 oz. I have a big problem with dry skin.

I love that word zoobies. Wish I'd heard it earlier. The women in my

family weren't shortchanged in the " zoobie " department, not even the skinny

ones. It must be a genetic thing for some of us.

Hope you have a great vacation.

Take care,

Geri

I have to admit that I really don't sit and watch baseball but my husband is

a baseball ,golf, curling etc nut. Since the Brewers are getting a new

stadium next spring and none of our family have been to Milwaukee to see them

play we decided to start our vacation a day earlier. We have gone to

Minneapolis to see games because it is only 150 miles away compared to 350 to

400 miles away.

I am hoping that when I get back from my trip that I will have my blood test

back from the Mayo Clinic. I have been really tired this week. I don't know

if it is because I am depressed that now I only work 4 hours a day or it is

because of AIH. I have never not work since I was 16 years old so I guess it

could be depression.

I will be leaving Monday morning so I hope to have a good time and sit and

read books while and her friend swim and etc. when we get to

Wisconsin Dells.

Talk to you soon take care!

I had a wonderful time and 184 messages waiting for me. I am getting up in

the morning and take my daugther to her first Drivers Education lesson. She

will going every day for 2 hours a day for three weeks. Except for the 5th

of July, that is why she is starting on a Friday. Otherwise we would of

stayed longer.

After gets to DE I will go out and get my dog Halo (boy I missed her)

Sue,

Sounds like you had a nice, restful vacation, but isn't it always great to

be home again? As much as I love to travel, I love coming home even more.

Believe it or not, my 22 year old nephew doesn't have a driver's license

yet. He's in the Army, stationed in NY, and is coming home on the 25th. of

this month. He'll be with us until July 9th., then goes back to NY and on

July 15th., he leaves for Bosnia for 9 months. I'll worry about him a LOT.

Bob is going to take him to (finally) get his driver's license while he's

home. He says he has a military license but they don't work in the " real "

world. I won't ride with the kids when they are learning to drive. I'm too

nervous when anyone but Bob is driving.

Glad you're home and I hope you're feeling great. I'll bet your little dog

is happy to see you.

But I just have been getting tired otherwise I do feel pretty good. Ofcourse

now that I only work 4 hours a day might be the reason I feel better. I was

Sue,

So sorry to hear the news. My thoughts are with you. The best thing you can

look at is that you had something to fall back on. Pred. may not be the

best drug in the world as far as side affects go, but it is a life saver,

nevertheless. I do hope you are feeling better by now. The anger and

depression are normal courses for you to take, they will subside I am sure.

Good luck with everything.

I read your posting about your family.

Although my husband is my strength. He knows how I feel probably before I

Sue,

I think I took the wise move when my kids learnt to drive. I just paid for

their lessons. My husband tried with all three of them, but they always

ended up fighting over something. I opted not to get involved. I am glad I

did, we are still friends and I know they have been taught properly, by a

qualified instructor. I still get a little nervous when I drive with them.

Hard to believe for me, that they have grown so much, and can drive

themselves around.

Sue,

My mother-in-law is 88 also. She is great with understanding everything I

tell her about the disease. She is extremely educated and a great support

to me. I stay overnight at her house every 2 weeks when I have to go to see

my specialist. She is very concerned about me.

I got my labs back today. All are looking good. AST normal and ALT is only

slightly elevated. Sugars are still higher than normal, but the pred has

done that to me. GGT up, but not too high.

Even my blood pressure is normal. Coming off the pred. certainly shows up

in some of my tests. My local doc is extremely happy. Not happy with the

symptoms from the withdrawal, but I see the specialist on Monday and we

will, I am sure, decide if to preserver with decreasing or what.

Have a great weekend, I am going to.

Good news on the tests. I was called today by the doctor's nurse and was told

the numbers were high and she would put them in the mail for me. I know how

to ready the report. I guess I just have to keep going on the prednisone but

I start 20 mg tomorrow instead of 30. I have the moon face again and the big
